Actic Man April 8-12, 2009

Read

Okay here we go..... GCI did not pull out at the last minute, GCI decided to not sponsor Arctic Man earlier last year, nothing personal on why GCI pulled out. Channel 4 News is picking up Arctic Man sponsorship this year.

Lets hope for enough snow to get stuck on flat ground

There's always enough for a yammi

Glad to hear the show is on! Arctic Man is a tremendous event that wouldn't be possible without Howie. Although he obviously makes money doing this, he has put his love, sweat and tears into the event. It is definitely a tradition that we should all be proud of -- the "Sturgis for Snowmobiles". I think that it is generally (with a few exceptions of course) a great way to showcase our sport and Alaska for the rest of the World to see and experience. For the record, Howie contributes greatly to our community. If you see him at Arctic Man, I'd encourage you to thank him for what he has given us to look forward to every April.

GCI and GENE's both dropped out. Both stated economic reasons. GUARD PICKED IT UP!!! The Ski and snowboard part is going away due to pro skiers coming every year which cut the entries down to just a few in each class. No big deal. Snowmachine race should be much more entertaining.

I spoke to Howie at 6:30 this evening and he confirmed that the ski and snowboard race is still on with no plans to cancel it. The snowmachine race that his being held is in addition to not in place of. GCI is no longer sponsoring and Genes hasn't been a sponsor for a few years now. The official Arctic Man website should be back up very soon and it will give have all the race details as well as contact information for reserving parking and purchasing firewood. If your in the Fairbanks area you can stop into Sunshne Travel to reserve your parking spot. Here's to another great week in the mountains!:beer;:beer;:beer; Thanks Howie

Summit/paxson is very deep right now, and the total snow fall is better then it has been in a couple of years. Guessing snow conditions a week in advance is hard to do, so guessing over a month in advance, your just taking your chances. I do know that all the short tracks that were down there last weekend, couldnt get anywhere.
