Abandoned Sleds

Just curious, how many folks left sleds in the field, at the end of the season? I just heard from a friend who ended up doing same and could not get it out because of the conditions.

Yeah, could ya tell me where they are? I'll go up, retrieve them and apply for registration under abandoned vehicles or something like that. Or fix what is broken and sell under salvage titles.

Nice try folks

Munckin,

You are a very, very sharp guy/gal. You caught me! I thought I would at least get past you. Darn it all....

Then along comes grieff, he's an animal. Nothing gets past him either.

O.K. brain boys, one more time with the qestion, listen closely this time; HOW...MANY....FOLKS... HAD...To...LEAVE...A...SLED...IN...THE...FIELD???

Simple question, despite you guys accusing others of foul play. Like I said, a friend had to do same and I thought it might be interesting to track the number of sleds that are out there.

Don't drink the water, it's posioned...!

Abandoned sleds

Snowhawk,

That one looks close to the Vail Pass urinal... No pun intended (honest Munckin, I don't want that one..... trust me on this one) funny none the less.

Thanks for the input.

I did......not too thrilled about it either

It a 2009 M8 Twisted Turbo, Holtz everything and its painted in gold flake.

If you head up to forest rd 179 out of Irwin head west to the big tree, left up around the lodge, keep going till you see the rock pile, the hang a hard left. head up tp the summit drop into the next bowl (gets a little tight) you should be heading south now keep heading up to the steep ridge line. you will see another rock pile a little bigger then the first drop over that ridge and hold on................ you will see my sled at the bottom. I lost a darn spark plug !

I lost my dam back up tring to get the turbo out

If you see it grab it too

I wasn't accusing anyone of foul play. I have time on my hands and if I can retrieve abandoned sleds this summer then so be it.:beer;:beer;

Four of five years ago a rider from the Winter Park side of Rollins pass ended on the east side down near Forest Lakes and his sled was there for a few years. It was in the "Wilderness Area" of James Peak wilderness where no mechanical devices were allowed to assist in getting it out. Last I heard it was still there.

Sleds where they rest

Besides my friends machine I heard of at least two other late season riders walking out of Vail Pass after they cooked their sleds. Then the slush set in and from what I hear and understand, no wheeled vehicles allowed until all is dry to drive on.

Ya all take care and think snow... 75+ here in COS today, I'm not ready for summer yet.

Yeah, let's keep the area wild but let's leave snowmobiles in there. The USFS is a joke. They can't keep their word. Last season there were dozens of snowmobiles running all over the Wilderness area up in Spring Creek. Granted, they were searching for a lost rider but then another rider goes missing and the only thing they will do is fly over and search.

They wouldnt allow a riding search? Isnt that endangerment?

Hard to say. Guess it depends on who you are and who is helping find you. The USFS is very weird that way.

Wouldn't letting a wildfire burn uncontrollably and not fighting it be endangerment too? But they refused to fight a fire in the Zirkel Wilderness a few years back and if it hadn't of snowed/rained it could have ultimately spread and destroyed homes.

My dad sold a sled to a guy a while back. He took it of the side of a mountain
on Rollins. Flatten that ****er like a pancake! This "new owner" never registered the sled in his name and he just left it there. My dad got a call from the NFS telling him to get it out or they will at his expense. The took the last registration numbers off the sled. Of course he contacted the guy who owned it, took care of ownership and let him deal with it. He got it out (don't know how) and gave waht was left back to my dad. lol
