A heads up for Colockum Riders...

The Wenatchee World published an article today that Olympia changed the status of Lake Wenatchee State Park and Lily Lake Sno-Park. For myself, who rides the Colockum area quite often, the Lily Lake change is lame. It is no longer considered a Sno-Park and anyone wanting to use it must now go get a Discover Pass to do so. But they left the Clear Lake Sno-Parks alone? That doesn't make any sense. I personally prefer to use the Lily Lake side to access the good stuff.

But in case you didn't know, I wanted to post this to alert everyone so none of my fellow riders get in trouble.

Bring on the snow!

Actually, the Lily sno-park is on DNR lands, hence the designation change. Who owns the land calls the shots, frankly.

This has actually been a hot topic the last couple of years; the Yakima Ski-Benders have had to fundraise the last 2 seasons to keep the DNR parks open, and efforts were made to work with local Wenatchee area clubs on the Lily Lake sno-park. I am not sure of the Lake Wenatchee State Park sno-park, since that is a different owner. All state parks/DNR users in all seasons must now have a Discover Pass. Legislation should make them more user friendly next year, though.

Sad to say, but the Discover Pass at least keeps them open and spreads the load to all users instead of the minority who paid/worked the last 2 years to keep them open on the Yakima side of things. There were a lot of posts the last 2 years on the Ahtanum / DNR threads on snowest explaining the situation.

Bottom line, no Discover Pass=Closed snoparks in all the Ahtanum, Rattlesnake, Manashtash (when it is rebuilt), Lily Lake and the few State Parks sno-parks.

Now if it would only snow...

I have kept up with all of the threads on this subject and I am very aware of the financial situation and the benefits of the Discover Pass. I am actually not upset about it. I love using the Lily Lake way up the mountain so I purchased my annual pass today after reading the article. I was actually trying to alert everyone else in case other riders didn't receive the news. That's part of what this forum is for right? To look out for each other?

If people don't like it and don't want to buy the pass, they can go use Clear Lake and leave all the good stuff on the Lily Lake side to me. =)

I'm not sure if the info about Lake Wenatchee is correct. That's a non-motorized sno-park that runs 2 cats and is funded exclusively by sno-park money. (Season permits for such a thing cost double what us sledders have to pay) Also, the state sno-park page says that if you have a day sno-park permit you also need a discovery pass at Lake Wenatchee. Not at all relevant on this site, since it's cross country skiing.
