A Dozen more Turns!!(Avalanche Accident)

Kinda scary, even when you think things look ok.

The truth is they didn't think things looked OK. They second guessed themsleves. They identified hazards and still went for it (talking about the rock outcropping). We all are guilty of that at one time or another. I've done it!

Excellent VID. I will be forwarding the link to all that I know that sled and ski backcountry.

WOW !!! I am speechless,Ifeel so sorry for his family. This video will help save thousands of lives,GREAT JOB.Maybe in time they can show this video to his son to help him understand what an amazing dad he had.Be safe everyone!!:(:(

I am having my son send the link to this thread to Sam (they grew up together and were college roommates). He's a great young man with some strong determination. It's his wish that everyone can learn from their mistakes that day. Just want to show him that he is reaching people.

You have to use your head, no matter how much the powder/hill is calling. Live to ride another day.

Thanks you all for the kind words and more importantly taking the time to hear our message.

I am Sam from the video. While it is still difficult to relive the experience it has certainly brought comfort to my life as well as all those invovled knowing that what we went through can now be used to help others avoid such a situation.

If I can be of any assistance in answering questions etc. Please do not hesitate. As Sandy, Catwomen, said earlier it is my hope that we can get this message out and any and all that are willing to listen. I love the backcountry and deep snow whether it via a skis or a snowmobile but more than anything I want to do my best to make the experience fun and enjoyable for all and not a painful reminder of those we have lost.

Be safe and remember to enjoy the little things.

I challenge EVERYONE to order the DVD to share with their riding buddies who do not frequent this site.

$5.49
For that price there is NO REASON to not have it in your collection!

Thank you very much Sam for chiming in! You're a special young man (Ok, so maybe I still picture you and Josh after you came home from a day of mtn biking with your scuffed up knees, shins, or arms)!!

It means a lot to sooooooo very many people that you were able to make this DVD happen. You ARE making a difference in a lot of people's lives. :)

Mafesto, you are correct. That is just the cost of shipping and handling (envelope to ship, and postage). No one is making anything on the deal....just trying to reach as many folk as possible.

Thanks for stopping by here Sam! I can't even begin to imagine how hard it has been for you, the other folks involved, and Blake's family. Watching the video was quite the experience to say the least! Best of luck to you in your endeavors, are you still able to ski much?

In deed I do still ski telemark ski to boot....check the following link for some home video from the past two years...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzI_m4nbXe0.

Also like to get out and snowmobile from time to time although since the accident had to sell my machine to cover bills so hoping to get another one sometime.

Again thank you for all the encouragement and for taking the time to watch the video. I am very humbled by how great the response has been to video and the extents we are reaching.

this community is, as most intense sports are, very tight... we care about each other and those that cross our paths...

one thing I keep thinking back to...How is Blakes family? are you still in Bozeman? would gladly buy you a beer!!!

My hat's off to you bro! Watching you ride the bicycle at the end of "A Dozen More Turns" and watching that ski vid... you're one dedicated guy! Good to see that you are still out doing the things you enjoy. Keep on keepin' on! :beer;

We are still in Bozeman and will likely be for a long time. Blakes' family is doing well and we are blessed to be an active part of their lives. His son is a spitting image of his dad. While I wish Blake was here for his son, I look forward to the days when those of us that new Blake can show his son what made him such a great friend.

Addie, Blakes, wife is an amazing women that despite lifes challenges is doing a wonderful job raising her son. I am often amazed at the grace and strength Addie manages to carry through life.

One thing I love about outdoor recreation is that it forms a bound between perfect strangers leaving us all feeling as though we are part of one big family through good and the bad.

Thank you SAM.

Sam, thanks for making that video. Thanks for coming on this site as well!

I've been through 2 burials and honestly... it took me watching your video to get serious and say "TIME FOR MORE EDUCATION!" Your video brought me to tears, not an easy task.

Good on ya for getting back out there and (from what it sounds like) kickin' some ars! :D

Kudos to you Sam. God bless Blake's young family. There have been many of us on this site affected by tragic losses due to avalanches. Some possible at arm's length, while others very personally and in extremely life changing ways. I have sat back and watched, week after week this year, while reports continue to roll in about another few people lost while riding in the back country each week. It's time to step up, get more serious about education, and teach people to be more careful and aware. I don't have all the answers, but I have a very sincere desire to see this happen.

I challenge one of the sled video makers to put together a full length, back country, sledding video about avalanche prevention and awareness. This video should teach techniques, safety measures, and can be as graphic and heart wrenching as it needs to be to get the message across to as many riders as possible. Just a thought........and a challenge!

WOW, very powerful! Thanks to Sam and all who made the vid possible. This is definately a must watch video. I'll remember this forever. All I could think of at the end when it shows the pic of Addi and the little guy was my 4 month old son. I don't want to make this mistake ever! Thanks again Sam. Wishing you luck and success in all that you do!

wow put lump in my throat. I'm going to show it to the snowmobile club.

Just reminds us to get serious and stay that way regarding avalanche danger.

Thanks to the OP for posting the vid and thanks again Sam for stopping by to chat with us!

This is a must watch for anyone who plays in the backcountry. It's way too easy in the moment to think it'll never happen to you, and this shows all too clearly that, unfortunately, it can.

It sucks that it takes such an in-your-face year like this to make everyone think harder about their usual spots. We were riding this weekend in one of the local "avy-safe" areas and the place was PACKED with people like I've never seen. Lots of guys who would usually be on the big hills, including ourselves to some extent. Everyone we talked to was concerned with the avy danger in their usual spots....even the crazy's.

The good thing was, everyone had a GREAT time even tho we were playing a little lower, with a little less angle than some desire. That was my favorite part of the video....Sam echoed exactly what I was thinking; I've never had a bad day out with friends playing outdoors. We've been caught with crappy weather, dim light, bumpy trails, not making it where we planned to, broken parts, blown motors, and the list goes on. Everytime we made something out of it, and I can't remember once thinking I'd rather have been anywhere else. You really don't have to set the world on fire everytime out to have a good time....
