900 NA or Boost?

I swapped big bore experiences with burandt and he told me the 900 was different. Will see. I'd try one. Nobody likes a coward. I guess i should say my wife would try one. Not giving up my boost
I need to find someone whose willing to buy me a sled “to try”. I would love to be that wife. ?

If there is a 900 would it even be in the mountain chassis for 23? The big power mountain guys already have a boost option. Polaris always puts a new chassis in the short track for a year before the mountain, maybe they follow suit with this engine. They just released a pic of a low slung lake racer saying "fastest Polaris ever." Might just be in a Mach Z rival sled for this season. Flatlanders are mad they didn't get the turbo 850 in their trail sleds even if it only would have been a 15 hp difference down low.
It’s more than a 15 hp difference at sea level FYI.

I was told the 900 was in the works back in 2019, made sense back then based on where the info was coming from. Im surprised by the back to back release with the boost, but agree 900 is coming. Look at the carls cycle 900, a stock 900 twin from polaris with good performance on par with low boost turbo and reliability is a possibility
Jack has been testing/selling these for years, it is coming. (Here.)

I wonder if Keith Curtis is using the new 900 engine at RMSHA ? Last year he was using the factory turbo in his mod classes. But being Carl's cycle sponsored it might also be there 900BB kit

I love the idea of a factory big bore, and the carls 900 runs great. Reliable though? Idk… I know 5 guys who have ran the carls 900 over the past couple years. One of them had two (one boosted 900 that never worked). Out of those sleds not one made it over 1,000 miles before failure. Aside from the boosted one they did run great for at least 600 miles. I know that’s a small sample size, but it’s enough for me to stick with the 850 for now.

Reliability aside I prefer a big bore over boost. That’s based on the fact that here in McCall we only have a handful of turbo snow days a year. I also like the light weight quick response of the big bore myself.

You really need two sleds if you’re a serious rider. So get an 850 or 900 and a boost.

1,000 miles? Wow I didn't know sleds even went that far. I sell them after 700 ?

I worked there as a tech back in Nov/Dec, there are plenty of them on the snow, if there was an issue, it would be well known. Id imagine there would be a few updates at the factory level to make them more reliable

I ran a Carl's 860 big bore on a 800 bottom end for many years and several thousand mountain miles. It finally went down and was not repairable. Rock solid until I wore it out. Cylinders were individually cast (not monoblock) by CrankShop. Pistons were Wiseco proprietary to Carl's (could not order directly from Wiseco even with their part number without Carl's permission). Their 900 may be similar?

And that's the problem with big bore kits. I know too many people who have sleds without pistons and rings that need parts and nobody out there can supply them. The fact that Carl's acts like a 5 year old sled is ancient garbage and ready for the junkyard keeps me from spending any money with them.

Well that won't be a problem anymore as this 900 will be a factory order and parts should be available. I heard that they will be limited though so don't leave the snowcheck to the last minute.
