900 Mountain Cat opinions?

No guages, other than Digitrons.......

No gas rack and tail light, no head light, no hood foam. And it seems, now that I've advanced the timing and jetted down, I don't need any extra gas. Although I'm thinking about only half filling the tank and using a can again for the other few gal., so I can take it off durring a climb competition. Now this is on a King that already is lighter than a '03 MC.

Well, 100 posts and it seems like were as far as we can get up the hill! I guess we loose to the others, Tuck our tail between our legs and head back down! Well. for the majority of the posts we probably all learned something? Too bad they just didn't last longer in this competitive world, Technology out did the design! But oh well, I will keep the ol'e beast for nostalgia reasons! Still kinda like the ZR chassis, Reminds me of the old 650 Wildcat of yesteryear.

Will be riding a 1M chassis for quite a few years I imagine. Admittedly, it doesn't exactly have a stock 900 in it....

Now thats my kind of nostalgia! Three bangers at over 480cc's ea. Did I hear someone say three CR500's in one machine! Thats like having a good "BIF" at the back side of the head, "HELLO"

Skyhigh, Don't let it rule you, Rule it! Sometimes these machines have a mind of their own, Won't turn back up hill etc.. They wan't to nose dive back down hill. The throttle is your friend, It will respond with rider input and throttle! If the throttle response is on, They are fun!!! Just get used to it and don't let it tail walk up a hill without it knowing who the master is! I have got out of many situations with the throttle, But been in a few precarious situations with it, Like up behind a tree line on a face and no one would help me, And I wouldn't blame them!

900 weight-loss

how lite can u get these sleds? I have a 03.5 900 with a timber sled rear suspention, boss seat, mesh hood, cpi twins (have not put them on yet),all lights have been pulled off,gas rack is gone, post moved forward. I have not weighed it yet but it feels light. I also am going to try to put a edge or m gastank on for this year, I hate the stock tank. anyone tryed this?

How did you get a Timbersled rear suspension? They said they tried one and didn,t work very well! To me it seems like the same design on the earlier M's would work with bushings at the sides to take up the tunnel width. Otherwise with those mods you should be in the upper 460 to low 470 range weight wise? A stock '04 EFI 159 weighed 514# with water in cooling system, And 594# ready to ride. A KK weighed 588# #'s are from SW test in March of '04

installed a 2 wheel kit on mine used the bdx one , cheap and easy , didn't notice a huge difference put it on the same time as the powderclaw though.

I got a two wheel axle from fastlane,as they have one they machine down the ends instead of sleeve it in the middle, and at the same time added bdx inner wheel kit.I noticed a big difference in it all

I ordered a mountain tamer rear suspension from a m sled and was determind to make it work. I made new front A arms and installed a 18.5" shock, this raised the front of the sled then I was able to install the rear skid and i had to make new drop brakets. It works awesome, I have some pics but don't know how to post

Good job! I was thinking the same thing, But the reps at the show discouraged me! I was hoping they would solve the issue? I cannot see where the back end of the sled is that much different except width that it wouldn't work! So I assume that the drop brackets (Sled Junkies) Are gone and is firmly mounted to the chassis like the rest with drop brackets? The shock is 18.5" upfront? Is it laid down more with that lg? The front arm I would assume is 4130/4340 moly steel? Same lg, Or longer? Thanks for the reply, Just trying to figure out the consequences of doing it wrong the first time?

Thanks
Mike

yes the arms are 4130. and yes I mounted the drop brakets solid to the tunnel. the differance between the M sleds and the MC KK is hole in the tunnel where the front of the skid mounts it is lower and the front of the sled sits lower also so you have to raise the front of the sled and the skid will sit flat on the ground and work properly.

Thankyou, I have raised the front of the skid to match the longer front shocks. Roughly 2" made my own front skid brackets out of aluminum and offset the mounting hole for a skid setback. The rear shock is 14.5" and front is 11.5" Where is the 18.5" shock upfront? I would assume as those skids are taller in height it would be upfront? I bet it saved some weight out of the ol'e cadillac!
