885r BB tq monster in revy over the week

had the 885r out this week in revy, we also picked up a xp 154 at the rental shop and the other guys had a newer 08 m1000 with a sledshed can, and one with a 07xrs

we had great conditions mixed with great new snow.... the new BB sure ran great... put in solid pins compared to stock hollow

we ran many hills and got a great feeling for the sleds.... the other three sleds were very comparable with the xrs slightly in fourth

the xp and snopro were neck in neck(these guys did not leave much on the table, competative as hell, lol) from my point i thought the m1000 had more track speed and would hit the hill faster, but the xp just hangs in their

as for the new 885r bb it was a a hole new league of sleds, i could let them take off first then start, then catch up, then let off, then come back on, and still go buy with ease... all three guys said it was no comparsion... gotta love it

now lets hope the reliabilty stays their

Who did the motor work? How was the clutching?

interesting. what altitude you run at? how far out is split second on these bb kits? looks like your sled is heavily modded, were the other sleds stock chassis? what exhaust?

the xrs and m1000 had cans no engine work, the stock xp was just that al stock, mine had a can, and bigger pistons

revy is 6500', split-second has done BB for years, will be putting on the dyno in january

my jetting is very rich compared to the stocker, so i think their is still more on the table, i use pump gas on this sled

Did you shim your needles or put in the 07 needles & put them in the centre? ...Track speed?? Fuel consumption compared to stock? ... I still havn't put mine in yet, been kinda paranoid, glad you got rid of that "squeak" sound. lol . Hope you phoned Ralphy with the good news.

yes ralph heard by baker by the time i got home... guess i was spotted down their

drove the living hell out of it, snow was incrediable

i am running last years needles, thanks to turbo al, but am running them in the stock center postion... so your needles on the 08 should run fine with no shims needed(10 tho shim was even to much fuel)

fuel consumption is equal to the stock xp sled we had out(maybe even better by a bit)... the m1000 and last years xrs used 4 liters more on average

as for hp he said he had dynoed last years model with twin pipes, said it never performed like it should of and did in the low 160s... from what i seen on the stock xp compared to my xp i would say 15 to 20 more hp for sure(running 18.9grams compared to stock) on the primary

i will be dropping my mains now down to 500-470 for next ride, was rich compared to the stock xp plugs

FRED running 16 gram pins in stk xp 800-154,s gearing 21/49..clicker 4 in revy..out pull,s stk xp,s and cooler clutch,s....404-162-059 07 800r needle is leaner than the 08 xp needle...try a 130-230 tra spring to load motor ..stk is a 160-320 we are running so close to stk jetting in our 860,s will have final calabration done by the new year.

thanks dave, as we discussed today i think my pins are more than 16.8 grams, will buy a scale tonight and see, they are 36mm long and have 1/4" out the ends of the arms

good to know the 07 needle is leaner, i am running in the center postion on the clip, i went to one sise bigger pilot and dropped the mains to 470-480... as for primary spring i went to the purple blue (130-320) i think it is

Big Bore Jetting

I have been following your big bore adjustments and was out in Sicamous for the past 3 days. I started out with the 07 Needles set at the 4th position 17.5 pilots and 500 jets. I drove up to Owls head and the max exhaust heat I generated with 1000. The sled was a rocket from 0 to wide open. The plugs looked awesome after the wide open racing we were doing. Visability was poor and we ended up tree riding. The mid range was very sloppy but I left it there for the day just to break the engine in. I did some research on the 07 needles and they are a thinner needle than the 08 needle and the tubes are the same size, Thus the 08 needles are leaner. So after the first day of riding I dropped the needles to the center position (No.3), which is the stock position for the 07. I rode it the next day with a max exhaust temp of 1213 at the lower levels. (temperature was held down to 900 - 1050 by constant working of the throttle or just setting the choke on the enrichener). We played in powder over the windshield for the next 2 days and I had constant power right from the bottom to the the top. At any speed when you opened up the throttle it was a rocket (no hesitation). Their may be a little room to play with the mains but by the look of the plugs after a wide open run, there isn't much room, possibly 490's but I'll wait a couple of more rides before I try. The other thing couple of things I did different than you was I regeared to a 20 tooth, put in a Goodwin Performance Jackshaft and went to a TEAM Secondary. I had no belt issues in 150 miles of Powder riding.

i still have not got my probes installed so i have been only checking plugs and doing lots of trial and error

i also found the center postion to be the sweet spot on the 07 needles where i do not have any bog on lower rpm , i have drove this combo on the farm(2400') and drove it at a constant 6000 rpm for a mile, checked plugs and thought i was ok at that... nice to see now what your egts where saying

are you running single or double ring pistons??... what is your cold compression

i also found that running 20.5 pilots gave the sled a boggish feel down low and i went back to stock

checked my plugs many times last time with 510-490 mains, plugs were rich compared to stock, just a bit of tan on the 90degree of the electrode

now what i still would like to find out... can a guy run one leaner postion on the needles.... how much leaner can one run with the mains(860 guys are around the 400 to 450)

and what primary spring will work the best... might have to look at your secondary setup

we will be going to crowsnest or whitfish for a good part of the this week and will try to finalize the testing

I am running the tappered double ring pistons, not sure of the compression but will have to test.

The stock jets are different through the years of the HO engine

2004 and 2005 400
2006 440
2007 470
2008 480

The needles are the same in the 04, 05 and 07
06 has its own needles and so does 08.

Judging from the fuel economy we are getting I believe that the DPM is programmed for our sleds to run leaner than previous years as you can see in the stock sleds with stock jetting. I think if it is running strong be careful with the mains I'm not sure how the DPM will react.. Wiesco pistons are not as heat resistant as stock.

When people are running lower mains than you take a look at the year of the sled they are running as their baseline is lower than ours.

I know there is room for lowering the mains as I only hit 1050 on a hard pull across a lake so I figure I will give 490's a try at some point. As visibility was an issue I was unable to take a big pull for an EGT reading. I want to wait until I can take that pull on a hill as I think that the EGT will be higher under a greater load.

If you want more performance try the 20 tooth top gear for a day. You'll love it. If you don't, you can always change it back.

I will be interested to see how you make out with the jetting, Let me know. As I said in our conversation Baker is at 480 but he is using too much oil. When he gets that issue solved he plans on going back to 500's.

Where do you guys have your probes located? My 860 will run right up to 1350 wot, but looking at the plugs I'm fine. Thats with 400's in an 06 860 with a splash of VP111 in the tank.

Sensor Positioning

I am using a Digatron and their recommendation is:

Install the sensor clamp assembly on the exhaust header. Position the clamp so that the sensor will be in the center of the header and approximately 2" from the head side of the exhaust flange.

That is where mine are installed.

The manual also says:

The best way to determine what temerature is normal for your motor is to tune for good plug or piston color and then observe the temperature at various throttle settings.

To me that sounds like if 1350 is good with your plugs etc. then go with it.

I also run a 2 1/2 gallons of C-12 per tank so my safe heat point may be higher than 1250 also. I will try to be under 1250 on a climb when I start jetting down. As I said before I am not sure what that temp will be in that situation or what the plugs will look like. As I am set up now, on wide-open throttle on a flat surface at 6500' the plugs are a nice golden brown.

On my 04 900 Crankshop I hold 1225 on a climb with or without NOS and the plugs are nice golden brown at that temp. That engine is 3 years old with 4200 miles and still running strong. That engine always has had 2 1/2 gallons of C-12 per tank also.

In 07 did they have the plastic shim under the e-clip for the needle? Are you using the shim from the 08 needle with the 07 needle? thanks
