800 Pro RMK, overheating, coolers... a discussion.

Not dumb at all... they help protect the Hi Fax... but not overheating the engine.

The scratchers are an easy one... the snowflap... no brainer.

.

Okay so im not off my rocker.. i knew wheels aid the hifax
but the hifax have nothing to do with an overheating sled.
hifax just melt off in little stringy pieces... (oops)

Just so im clear MH npg+ and npg-r are no longer around and have been replaced with npg-c

So what I am gathering from everyone is that if were to have bought a PRO RMK with the expectation of not only riding it out west, but also as a do-everything sled back home in MN, I would have been better off taking the 9# weight penalty and getting the standard model????? I wouldn't want something I can't occasionaly burn down the trail with back here without over-heating issues....

Well when the hi-fax has melted to the track from lack of lube the extra power generated to tun the track will work the engine harder, generating more engine heat. Same as cruising down the highway in the Griswold family truckster empty, it's easy cruising. Throw grandma on the roof and kids in the back and the extra load kills it..

But usually scratchers can spray enough on the hifax at low speeds ( through woops).. but you need to be going fast enough to have the snow spray on coolers.

My Pro got hot faster than any sled I ever owned (including my previous D8). You have to run scratchers on the groomed non-powder stuff. The Pro RMK is not what I would choose for a trail sled.

Agreed, The problem is lack of information from Polaris, While I appreciate and love my Pro, I did not understand the limitations of my cooling system until on hard pack and hitting 200 F. It was then I researched on SW this issue and found resolve. Always run with your scratches down when climbing on hard pack or less than 4 inch'es of snow. I have never had issues when headed down hill to the truck with out scratchers down, this is a deep snow machine. Like others have said, if you want to trail ride only, don't buy a Pro, or except running with your scratchers down.

Joe.. Well i was one of those, Guys..

Ride out west a couple time a year.. Plus Mich, Plus i want to ride around home also..

The PRO RMK Did all that and MORE, If i used the Side kicks.. Down all the time, NEVER worried about Over heating, Yes, i did ride trail, but mostly riding off trail, and i ride aggressive! My normal temp was always 122-127... Actually the highest i saw it was OUT WEST, on a side hill Frozen hard snow, had to say in the track, and couldn't spin up the snow ,, was 180

Put over 1600 miles on it.. Engine is TIGHT. .003 Clearance.. Hi Fax.. Still looking like NEW!. Some corner chunks missing from track.. but.. hey.. i am not easy on it!

0- 10 Scale For a Out West and at home Sled.. i give it a 12+

my .02

In marginal snow or hardpack...yes the std is a better choice... it has more cooling capacity.

Scratchers, non ported snow flap go a long way.

GOD I LOVE THIS GUY :D

What do you guys think of the Gizmo(I think that is what they call it)? The inline thermostat that only lets hot water circulate into the engine to avoid what the maker calls a "cold shot". Also, I really liked my cable scratchers I had on my Doo. I am forgetful especially when I am having fun and I don't think the stock scratchers will last long. Should I ADD the cable scratchers and run 2 sets or replace the stockers for the cable. I really like the way the stock flap looks. Do they make one that looks the same with out the holes? Lotta questions, thanks.

Da 'gizmo' on a pro will run hotter than stock. Real world experiences. FWIW.
