503 with a broken wing...need help!

motor has spark, getting fuel, pulled heads and pistons/cylinders look perfect, good compression. runs and idles all day but wont pull any rpms and will barley get itself down the driveway...any ideas? i found a craked vacuum line at motor that goes to fuel pump and fixed that but still same issue...

You might pull reeds and look to see if they are sealing tight on the back side , it seems to be the season for bad reeds this year and it can cause wierd and sometimes irratic problems

No reeds!

Piston port engine.

Cracks in the intake tubes, pinched fuel line, fuel line filter in tank, soaked air cleaners?

Tired old bird!

left filter was soaked, well not too soaked but i adjusted the float and that problem is solved.i checked the reeds and i must have a serious problem as it sucked in the reeds, cages, and all parts accociated with reeds,so i just saved a few hundred by not being able to buy v force reeds, haha. intakes are good, fuel lines good, filter is off (just to try it).???????????????????

anyone have a 503 motor to sell, addict? you gonna part out that new one?

someone suggested coil? even though it has spark it might not be 100% .does this seem possible?

Fuel pump diaphragm? Pull the fuel line off the fuelpump and run an "IV" stand and remote fuel bottle to the carbs. If she'll rev out with the bottle, then it is pump/tank/filter. If still no rev, motor side?

18 hours back and forth in and out....

still got nothing, i had motor out and apart to check EVERYTHING. all good,so it seems. removed fuel pump and cleaned, looks good, diaphram looks good,im gonna try the "iv" as suggested and see what i get....one thing i noticed was some oil seepage at vacuum line to fuel pump? but not all the way to pump...

What about your exhaust - did the end get folded over restricting it or something? Is the spring in your secondary alright? If it was broken you would full shift the clutches and she'd be on her knees.... Have you changed your belt with the wrong one? too long of a belt will do wierd stuff too.

exhaust is good,it exits high in front of track,no issues there...clutches are good, belt is xlt but has a few rides with no issues. even on a stand without load it still wont run well it will get up in rpms but seems like it misses or loads up, tried to lean it way out, richen it alot, tried stock foam pods and newer snow pods(more porus) needle clip up down, main jets up down,im lost. hopefully ill win a coil on ebay that is new and try that if it goes cheap...has spark but doesnt seem as good as my 670...im wondering if it has electrical issues. im gonna try the iv tank and eliminate any fuel pump, filter, tank trouble later tonite,or tomorrow.im lost.if anybody wants to come over in the next fews days ill leave the garage unlocked for you...ill let me insurance company take care of the rest.lol

Broken hawk

I just went through this with mine and i found that my choke was stuck on the pto side. It idled great but as soon as i had any load on motor she would fall flat on her face. I tried this with and without belt on machine.Turns out that the cable was moving freely on choke but the plunger was stuck in the up position on the carb ( full choke ) After i cleaned the the carb it fix that problem. Might be worth checking.

I can't think of how to test them, but I *think* I remember crank seals causing that kind of grab throttle and fall on face feeling. Maybe you could expose the seals and start the machine, wave an UNLIT propane torch at the sealing surface and see if the introduced propane changes the rpm while holding the throttle open a little at steady rpm.
Wish I could think of something else, good luck.

I always loved it when the shop would get a machine in that had a serious ghost and nobody could figure it out. All the different theories and diagnosis techniques that the techs would come up with to test the known values of fuel, air, spark, timing, etc. trying to figure out which one was out of wack and best of all, where??? Floating grounds, cracked/worn insulation, broken connectors, pinched or plugged fuel/vacu/vent lines, leaky airboots, valves, gaskets or seals, the list is endless.

i was reading in another forum about this issue im having and another guy had the exact same issue and it was his coil...i just won a brand new in box coil on ebay last nite for 13 and change....i figure its worth a shot, alot better that 300.00 at the dealer!ill wait till then too try again,im so frusterated with all the snow we have...

me too. i wish mine had the broken shaft! atleast you can see the broken part! i hate electrical issues,if thats what mine is???? i went out and beat up the formula 670 for 105 miles today, i got my fix for 2 stroke fun!

wow im sick to myself....

new fuel pump, cleaned carbs 20 times ,chokes are not sticking, brand new coil, new plugs, new fuel filter, tried iv set up too, still same issue. could i possibly be missing something? could it possibly be a clutch issue? i cant stand it anymore!!!!!

The agony!! Film that thing while it is 'effing up and post it on youtube. Since we can't come sit in your garage with you, you can post your "garage experience" for us. So much is lost in the pixels on the forum that can be expressed with the video. Mostly, I want the sound of the engine fouling. We don't need to see you eating broken glass or anything like that, just the motor idling, then revving to foul. Do it a dozen times, maybe 1-2mins of footage?

Have you run it with out the belt on?

While the motor is fouling, pull side plug cap and listen for change. Then same test on other side. The next test is connect and disconnect the the kill switch at the plug to listen to the motor go from foul to kill to foul. This does sound electrical, maybe even CDI. Shall I send you my CDI to test? I am sure there is someone closer that could bring their 'hawk over and start swapping electricals until the other unit is fouling also or yours runs smooth. Then, what ever you do, DON'T throw some date rape-amnesia drugs into the other fellas beer so he forgets why his machine doesn't run right anymore and send him home...:D

ive been throwing the drugs on my machine, switchin and swappin parts ...im lost now! put a newer motor with all different elecs in it,new primary clutch. if that doesnt fix it,its fuel related or secondary clutch related, cause everything else is changed from a running sled....(but i checked all that stuff already).hopefully ill be riding tomorrow or ill film it on you tube burning and me calling the insurance guy.hahaha
