3" Track for the Pro

Was amazed last season on how many folks were afraid to mod & add wheels to rails. Felt like a "wave" from out of the blue. Heck, for two decades I have watched average folk do simple mods like this without hesitation (self included). It seems that these days anything beyond stickers/wraps is/are taboo.

..... Off to consult the wizard

It's not that it's taboo, people are just scared of voiding warantees now.

This is just my point of view, but there are so many loopholes in the warranty contract verbiage that they don't cover anything anyway. Again just my experience and why I don't consider it in my purchase nor do I waste my money on the extended warranty BS.

That's how I feel as well, but just stating what i believe people's reasons are. I try leave things stock the first year to feel out any issues with the sled, but am by no means scared to improve the sled.

Carls Cycle is bringing in 50 of the center punched x3 tracks according to Jake, 38 are now pre-sold

This mod has got to be the best bolt on mod for a stocker I have ever seen. I spent two days in McCall last year trying to follow a stock 13 with this track. I couldn't even get there by poaching. It flat kicked butt in every category. I drank the Kool-Aid and now I believe

Does anyone know if there is a part number or model number for the new 3" windowed track with dimensions 162 x 15?

So can a guy run non extraverts drivers 7tooth of course to get away with not adding anti stab and cutting rails? I cant see the drive nubs ripping off, it would work like any other normal track or is there something different about the X3?

More traction load of the 3" paddle plus less teeth... Not sure that is a great situation for a non extro driver.

I concur, with the majority of people not wanting to spend any more money / do anything harder than buying a set of 7 tooth drivers and installing them.

I personally don't like extros nor the small diameter 7 tooth drivers. I am going with custom 9 tooth involute drivers which requires a drop and roll as well as a tunnel top lift to eliminate the choke point at the front of the coolers. I have not decided if I'm going to market the upgrade or not, yet. It is a lot more work and money, especially when I'm footing the entire bill for making the parts for just my six builds this year. We will see, it is going to be a fun year on the snow.

The only reason for the small diameter extros is you are either too lazy to check your track tension occasionally and / or too cheap to do the upgrade correctly. Not addressing this comment to anyone in particular, it is just my opinion.

TTT,

Just curious if anyone else made or plans on making the jump to the X3?

Pretty much have everything ready to go, except for the sled and clutching components. Any more recomendations on clutching?

Yup, doin it. Sled is ready, just waiting on the track and my primary to get back from Carls, going with Carls primary sheave machining, primary spring, belly busters, secondary spring and helix. Going with the center punched track by the way. Expecting it late this month to mid October.

Center punch

Could oneself punch a standard x3 track with a normal hole saw? and make it work with the new center extro-drivers?

My track has shipped from Carls. Should have it in the beginning of the week.

AVID'S NEW CENTER DRIVER

Just wanted to chime in and give Robbie from AVID a BIG THANKS for listening to his customers and delivering another QUALITY Product. Last season I was changing my track from under my Pro from a 153 PC to a 13' Polaris 163. I was hesitant to cut my rails to accommodate for Extrovert drivers after seeing a couple tracks get ripped in half because of Antistab wheel failures. So I called Robbie and we discussed some alternatives and he told me to give him a week and he would get back to me. Long story short he made me the first set of AVID's new center drivers and they have worked flawless in all types of snow condition's. BTW my sled is an 11' Pro with a Boondocker Turbo running 7 to 11 pounds of Boost and loving it. Just wanted to give credit where credit is due. Thanks Robbie

Good to hear! Unfortunately for AVID (Robbie), one of his employees answered my e-mail inquiry and was a total azz hat to me when I inquired about getting some 9 tooth drivers machined for me. So I got another aftermarket company to pony up and machine them for me, and will never do any business with AVID again.
