3" Lug Mountain Sled Shootout

That would be pointless!
I've already got the proof.
For 45k it had better be about 43k better than that.

Since some of you are completely missing my point, don't misunderstand.

I think the axys is the best out of the box sled in 16.
Main reason is the others are to wide and contact the snow to soon.
Some other awesome points.
The weight, big factor!!! 30+lbs under ready to ride.
Skis are the best
The seat is designed to give you leg room when on a steep sidehill
Rider stance feels great
Good power equal to the others

Cat comes in next,
Biggest factor is the track, it just won't stop. When the others blow out it tractors through and gives way more options to reroute.
Best suspension, light weight adjustable shocks
Storage!
Easiest throttle control

T3
Its got a comfy seat, lol
Its on par with power
Easy to roll around and control

Axys,
A good set of shocks is worth the money
A pc track makes it pull like the cat and makes it a killer sled
Some ppl may need stronger arms and brackets, it is light.

Cat,
Skinny boards are a game changer, makes it a true bc sled
Easy to ditch weight and makes massive differences, can and hood are the best place to start
Adding gripper skis makes for the best control and balance.
Shocks are great but van be improved with valving

T3,
SKINNY BOARDS! out of the 3 that is by far the biggest Game changer of the bunch.
Ditch some weight and you will appreciate it.
With the narrow boards you will want to add some shocks and a way to apply force to the rear of the skid.
Gripper skis are an improvement
Prefer the post forward
Some may want to add stiffening brackets for the smod .
This sled would also benefit from a pc track.

There is plenty more to do but those are my must do items for me.

I choose the cat in 16 because it's the cheapest and easiest to get the most potential.

That is exactly what the originally posted video was about :)

Looks like the conditions for the comparo were pretty good and the riding was pretty good as well. They reported what THEY think, what's the big deal? We all have our opinions!! They did say in the beginning that all these sleds were great, which they are. They should have mentioned the weak arms etc. to be fairer. I doubt they broke a 'nun' during the test! The Cats for sure engage harsh and make throttle modulation at low speeds difficult, giving the impression that the low end is weak, I can tell you this is not the case, plenty of power everywhere, as Wyo said. Needs to be worked a little to get it to show up. I think as an informed enthusiast we can sort all these small things out and enjoy these tests/comparos for information delivered with a little salt.:yo:

Wyo is lucky in the fact that his local dealers all spend their own money setting up(clutching, suspensions, maybe even gearing) for every customer. But for the regular dealership, that doesn't happen. Hell you are lucky to find a PDI boy that knows not to pump up a Fox Float to 150 PSI. Let alone tighten the bars properly or even put a little premix in off the hop.
So when he's explaining what he considers 'box stock' thT just means how his dealers send the sled out the door. Not your average dealer, and they should all be commended for that. I wish I could convince my bosses to let us come up with a baseline before the snow even flys and send all our snowchecks out the door ready to rip. However that's not the case. It's not until Xmas or New Years before our sales, parts, and service guys have enough time on the 'bone stock' sleds to actually confirm where they are weak or need improvement. A lot of this comes from simply not having enough snow or time to ride.

In the end, what wyo has been saying about an absolute 'bone stock' sled is pretty much what the Lesters said. Almost exactly save for the pesky a-arm issue. Remember the rag type people don't change a thing and only add oil and gas(and the occasional tall windshield) and report back on what 80% of all customers ride. We sold north of 125 sleds in the past 2 seasons and I doubt 100 of those actually changed anything other than a can. The other 25 actually spent some money on weights and springs. Maybe the odd helix here and there.

What we all need to remember is that when we talk on these forums we are talking to the 20 or so percent of people that will actually change anything. Not the other 80% that will ride it as it came off the showroom floor. And that is the Lesters demographic. Not us.

I never even mentioned that most dealers aren't selling snowchecks for anything less than retail in my area. So to have a dealer that'll sell for a thousand or so less than retail, plus add in an hour or so of labour and 30-100 bucks in parts just because they like you, that's some huge incentive to shop where wyo does. They obviously make money on repeat business and not the sale of units themselves. Especially if you see the margins and know of tight they can get at times.

No it wasn't, it wasn't horribly off but is misleading. To give an example of what I'm talking about would look like this.

Although the axys is the best out of the box sled it is very easy to make the others equal or better.
The axys a arms are weak, the weakest of the bunch where the cat remains the strongest of the 3 and only requires a set of bmfab skinny boards to outperform the axys.
The 16 cat still has the solid proven power plant that revolutionized performance and the turbo market.
The XM has been a strong reliable performer as well where as the Polaris has been way behind the ball with their 800. Most hard core extreme riders aren't surprised to see a engine fail within 1500 miles or less, requiring most riders to be dependent on the warranty. But so far the new power plant appears to be holding up with more power across the range, great turbo options so we are keeping our fingers crossed as it seems it's going to last longer.
As for the 3".
Another year of the power claw track on the cat just gets better with the 3", an already amazing track being a 2.6" upped the game and the 3" powerclaw is by far the most impressive track on the market.
Polaris delivers another soft tack that works good most of the time but after being spoiled with the pc it will drive you crazy coming off a cat.

Poo fails again in the shock department, there is a huge amount to gain with proper shock setup, doo is in the middle but still lacking.
Cat definitely takes the trophy with there impressive all out evol r shocks, they even threw in a 26 click adjuster on the rear shock.
All shocks can always be improved but cat sett a new standard for production sleds.

Since 90% of extreme riders make at least a few modifications it really only leaves one option.
The cat, since bm fab came out with a easy bolt on skinny boards and massive weight savings with a can putting you within close range to the axys.
You still get the grunt and bullet proof Suzuki engine, the dominating pc track, practically race ready suspension with easy setup and adjustment for any ridding condition, the iron clad durability that won't leave you stranded, the 16 cat is by far the extreme riders sled of choice to tear up the steepest tree infested hillsides and go where no one has been before!

You could always put shocks, arms, a pc track, rails, stiffeners on the axys for the tune of 5k and hope the engine holds but we prefer under 2k on the cat, much more sensible to most riders.
As for the XM there just isn't an option to narrow the boards which eliminates it, unless your a fabricator with time and money it's just not the best choice, maybe next year.

This is all 100% true, see the difference

Now do you f ck ing get it!!!!

My post a few back was un bias and listed potentials and positives . No negatives. VS, their post and this one are bias as f ck

Cat clutches in 16 do not engage hard

My dealers sale under retail, they give you option of clutching, I do my own. The cost of sled and clutching was under retail and they didn't charge setup. The also are good about suspension setup.
The cat dealer (or I do in a lot of cases) actual talks to the customer, find out there style and setup the sled accordingly, then inform them on how to tweak it from there. Which every dealer should do. That's where return customer service come from and several come back for mods because they trust us.

I agree. Every dealer should do that. But it doesn't happen in 98% of shops. That's all I'm saying. It's a terrible thing but that's the reality for most everyone that buys a new sled.

We sell at retail and don't even throw in a cover. Not even a spare belt or plugs.

As for dealers not charging freight or PDI, if your shop is big enough, each OEM waves freight when you order enough units. Freight should be a thing of the past for most dealerships nowadays.

The doo and poo dealer sets them up, full of fuel and oil ready to ride, for a great price! No hassle. Straight up. In Cody, wy

Most places north of the 49 don't give you a gallon of fuel. Terrible!

Edit: 10 years ago we used to fill up the oil tank, new cover, spare belt and plugs if you didn't haggle over price. Snowchecks are never given for less than retail. Well at least not 95% of the time.

I need to move to Cody.

to say the doo has a weak front end they must have hit a stump or something.?
wonder if they slammed the same stump with the other 3 brands to see if they would bend too.LOL

Indeed it is. And that is what the video was about. . . stock 3" models.

If you don't believe me, go back to the original post (video) . .. start at :58 and listen for just 5 seconds. You will hear these words . . "these are the best that each Manufacturer has to offer in a 3" model". That means stock as the manufacturers don't "mod" their stock sleds.

Cheers!

I can be bias with any brand! I can find conditions where each one shines and brag all about it while down playing the others and talking about their downfalls.

Perry simple, took out an axys and hit a pop can, ride was over because spindle broke. Then the arm bent tung to get it out, don't have much use for a sled that folds up and leaves you stranded. Would rather have a yami, at least it doesn't crumble.

It's got nothing to do with the sleds, IT'S MISLEADING!

To not agree just proves your a loyalist or kissing their azz,

They brought up faults of the others and the axys is just as faulty in the spindles and arms, if not more than the XM. Yet left it out completely.

Brought up past stuff about the cat, that was in accurate (but whatever) yet nothing from poo past failures that are much worse.

I bet you think hillary should be president, since you can justify leaving out any of the bad.

What a ridiculous butt hurt tirade over the Axys a-arms... Terribly misleading because they don't mention that? Pretty big stretch there Wyo but more power to ya.

I can't figure out what you don't get. It was a stock sled test, period, end of story. The slightly flawed Axys won. Get over it, it IS a great machine. I do not belive for a second that the Cat can compete dollar for dollar, which should matter. What matter more to me is out of the box performance and the Axys was the best of the three I rode by a good margin.

We all understand that you want to bully us with your ego, but man, give it a rest.

I know all about the Axys a-arm issue having bent three last fall. Still doesn't deter me for a second when considering another new one with the same bad a-arms. It is the best new sled you can buy.

Really??? hahahaha

Saying things like this is a prime example of how one loses credibility. Actually i think it was lost several posts ago. This just confirms it :)

i can see some possible 2017 shootout results.
i blipped the 850 doo throttle and shat in my snow pants.LOL.to much power.doo out.
dont like green.cats out.
and like goldylocks and the 3 bears, the poo just feels right.WINNER:first::first::first::first:

I'm never said it wasn't the best (except in some stupid example s, that where clearly bias like the video)
In fact I stated the same thing. It's got nothing to do with my skills, mods or whatever.
It's about bring up so called faults of the others and not of the axys.
Plain and simple bias and misleading.

They either should have brought up the equal faults of the axys or not mentioned the others. I prefer they just leave it out and talk purely about the benefits of each.

Just like the one post I posted earlier.
