3 Inch vs 2.6 Inch in the mountains

Nah...Ive ridden them back to back on a deep day on the same pull and I disagree. The difference in performance is very small. There is a point of diminishing returns with everything...and the jump from 2.6" to 3 vs 2.2 to 2.6 is nowhere near the same thing.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree as I have seen it go the other way as well. To each his own.

Only once this year did I see the gain for having the 3" and thats when we had 5ft dump. I was the only one able to get around. If I were to do it again, I think I would go with the 2.6" and put a tki bd on it and gear it down. I do love the gearing of the 3" vs the 2.6".

Im switching out my 3" to a 2.6" next year. Im really not that pleased with the "pop" on the 3". Its a heavy trencher and the increased trackspeed on 2.6" makes that one popup alot better on snow. So its a no brainer im my opinion!

Also much more "smooth" in the way it runs. When letting of the gas on the 3" it brakes so damn hard due to the traction of the lugs that its rugged ride. Its an increased learning curve to ride 3" then 2.6" thats more butter smooth.

It's all about the set up.

I rode Shane Hart's 163x3 (chaincase) Axys on Saturday.

HOLY CRAP THAT THING HOOKS. Even on the trail.
And to compare, I was coming off of a 2017 Demo with the 2.6" track, light can and Kurt's Gear Down kit.

It's all about the set-up.
