23-2-14 Stampede

FS was in the lot checking parking passes, tabs, and the special trail permit.

Dropped the sled over a ledge (pics when home) but saw the groomer on the way down. Wasn't very good honestly.....

I was curious about the special pass too. This year there is a pass that has to be used in conjunction with a parking pass. This is only at popular destinations and revenue is set aside for grooming the more frequently visited places.

Seasonal permit: $40 ($42 from retail vendor)
Allows parking at all winter sports Sno-Parks. A seasonal permit is non-transferable between vehicles. Some Sno-Parks require only a seasonal permit for season parking. Others require both the seasonal permit and the special groomed trails permit (sticker) in order to use the designated Sno-Park.

Special Groomed Trails permit: $40 ($42 from retail vendor)
Required, in conjunction with seasonal permit above, for parking at designated special groomed trails Sno-Parks with higher trail maintenance costs.

Checked the website and looked under crystal springs and it says this regarding permits.

Permits: Sno-Park Permit, Special Groomed Trails Permit sticker (required with a Seasonal Sno-Park Permit or snowmobile Sno-Park Permit when engaging in a non-motorized sport--see permit information)

reading that it sounds like you don't need it unless you are participating in a non motorized activity. If that's not the case they need to reword that because it's confusing.

Make sure i get this

I need the sno-park permit that i get every year to park. I may need a forest pass if i happen to ride on the forest service land, or maybe a discover pass on state land, and i also need a "special groomed trail" permit for riding on the groomed trails that my sno-park fee already pay for???

Hmmmm.....they must be using our tax dollars for something else. :mad2:

Brew is correct, you only need sno park permit. The special grooming permit is for non motorized trail pass which allows you to park along the east end of the parking lot with all the other cross country skiers. If you park along there without that pass you will be ticketed.

If you are "motorized", you only need the standard pass. Click-Clicks are supposed to have sno-park and groomed trails. That is where they get thier grooming money.

Ours is supposed to be supplemented with gas tax kick back that needs corrected.

Those clicker trails are crazy easy to groom vs ours and unless it is below freezing, sleds destroy trails in hours. Clickers are short a little on HP!!!

Oh, yeah, you look way cooler if you lift up your wiper blades when parking also

Thanks for the help guys. Heading up early in the morning. Anybody else riding tomorrow?

my group was up there on Sunday (three trucks) with just the standard sno-park pass and no one got a ticket, forest service was in the parking lot checking trucks and up on the hill we where checked for tabs on our sleds by the forest service on a new skidoo

Permit

Only need the standard issue permit to use regular area sno parks. If you want to use non-motorized area then you need the extra kicker sticker...Direct from the man on Saturday.

I watched the groomer .... groom the cross country ski trail...... what tabs did they buy..... dumb!!!:face-icon-small-sad
There are 2 Groomers at Crystal Springs, one for the Cross Country skiers and one for the Snowmobiles. While the Cross County groomer can groom the low trails near the snow park, the Snowmobile Groomer has to go up high, where the Extreme Avalanche danger has been posted for the last week. The Snowmobile Groomer has been out almost everyday trying to get the epic amount of snow that has fallen in the last week to settle a bit and give a base. The constant bitchers that complain about the groomer are the same ones that bitch about no snow. No one will ever make them happy!! Those of us who love the snow and love to ride don't bitch!!!!
