2018 Timbersled

anyone get pricing yet? heard the free tss kit is ONLY for the LE kits. would love to see if the blue option LE, would look like that pic of the ktm with all the orange. just made a deal for a new left over 2015 wr450f... going to build a second one for us. debating on buying a 16-17 left over st, or going with the newest latest and greatest. Ski

I think my 2013 timbersled sx is the best handling snowbike I have ever rode so far. It has a lot of these ideas 5 years ago. Other than double bearings and I think a lot of the bearing problems were do to not proper chain tension. Just run a soft spring to take up slack and leave 1/2 inch of play. Adjusting chain and trying to change sprocket on bike to get right ratio is frustrating either chain is to long or short. Other than that handling hard to beat. Narrower track to match front ski and third shock that has a linkage 4/1 ratio. Higher drivers and narrow feeling, heel hits nothing and comfortable to stand up on through rough stuff. Easy to make ski light to get through rough stuff just pull back and get on gas like a dirt bike yet steers great around hard pack corners. Little lacking in really deep stuff but change track and it good.

Does anyone have real world pricing yet? I'm ready to snowcheck. I want to make sure I'm getting a decent deal on a 120st.
Does the free TSS come with the LE model?

Looks pretty sweet to me!
Agree with the guy above.....I don't have any complaints about my 2013 kit except it could use a better track.
So they did away with pivoting suspension?
Just like my '13.

I think the narrow track did away with the need for that in the eyes of the designers.

.

I run the ts ski with a 13.25 wide track. I highly doubt going to a 10 wide track would make me climb better. Handle different yes but handle better? I guess that depends what you mean by better.
Im not dogging the new ski just the skinny track.

good looking

proof of course will be in riding this setup.

the real leap forward is less cost to build for Polaris

hand welded frame gone...........cnc aluminum cheaper by far
hand welded front pedestal gone..........cnc aluminum cheaper by far
cheaper to build skid arms for sure
no skis from UTAH, same plastic as kicked out for Polaris sleds

better track I would guess, same cost for polaris.........all good
cover for brake, all good, probably will drive cost up $500
better looking cheaper suspension rails than TS ever made.....good
got to be painful for Polaris to write checks to Fox again......bet we don't see them for long

Man hours to knock out a TS kit for sure is far less starting in 2018 for Polaris and for sure less hand work than any other kit, unless CAMSO has a cookie cutter kit machine.

I hope the hype match's the ride. About the kind of evolution it takes to stay in the game. Good to see Polaris going forward and not backwards. If they make more money off these kits, they will likley invest more $$$$ into test and development.

Im definitely snowchecking! Having a hard time figuring out if i want a LE 120 or LE 137?? I wish they would of released a 129! It would be a done deal! I've been riding my 16' ST the last two seasons and absolutely love it. But now with the narrower track im half tempted to go LT to help compensate for the loss of square inches..

12.5 X 120 = 1,500"

12.5 X 137 = 1,712.5"

11.5 X 120 = 1,380"

11.5 X 137 = 1,575.5"

decisions.. decisions..:juggle:

Does the free TSS come with the LE model?

$5499 for 120 ARO, free strut rod fit kit with a snowcheck
$6499 for 120 ARO LE, free TSS fit kit with a snowcheck

Have not checked on the 137's. Probably add $6 or $700 to those prices.

What's the theory behind the 1:1 ratio of the track and ski ?

The motorcycles and bicycles that have this set up are slow and cumbersome , maybe it doesn't matter ?

There's a reason why any performing dirt bike / super bike does not do this and if you've ever ridden one that is set up with an oversized front or rear you know the handling goes out the door .

The ski being the same width is gonna do the same thing in some conditions and will probably be worse since there is more movement of the forks and could actually create wash out since the track will have less fresh snow to grip ?

Of course in deeper snow the ski will cut a wake that the track will nicely follow improving the handling making it easier for a beginner so I guess that's a plus ?

Even though the track is narrow it probably doesn't trench any worse than the previous track that had unused center windows that is notorious for trenching until on step that also takes more than the average machine .

The approach angle of the track should make a great ditch banger so why even bother with a long track unless this is intended to be more for the short trackers ?

Just questions or is the bling that good ?

I take it you have not ridden a 10" wide SX with a 10" wide ski? It's pure magic.

My bicycle has the same size tire on the front as it does on the bike, it handles amazing too, it's not slow or cumbersome either.

For those of us that have not ridden one what makes it more of a magical feel over a wider track?

Turns quicker, leans quicker, accelerates quicker, jumps better, lands better, etc. There is less of the slow down feel when not on the throttle, feels a whole lot less likely to throw you over the bars when landing a jump or drop too. Hate to say it, but feels a lot more like a bike.

I'm a short track or sx guy though. Do not care to ride the LT or LT-SX at all.

How does it feel on the trails when you're out for a ride with the wife on her sled (yes, serious question!).

She likes to stick to groomed trails and loops through the hills. :face-icon-small-hap
