2017's are in

2017 m/c

Put 60 miles on yesterday snow was set up so hard to take advantage of the lower axle placement but the sled seemed to pull well were the 16 7 tooth sometimes hits a wall. still some secondary noise but at only very slow speeds the change to the primary was to get the secondary to shift through the noise point quicker. The stk primary spring has a very low engagement with the update so I installed a stiffer starting point and seemed to work well. supposed to get fresh snow this week so will get some more miles this weekend.

Rode 130 miles Thursday and Friday on a 17 in teepee creek and Taylor's fork/cabin creek respectively. Found good snow in teepee and found 2ft+ of fresh in Friday in Taylor's. It was the deepest fresh I've experienced in my trips coming to ride out west. Compared to the previous cats it was a big learning curve the first day, kept tipping it over too far and falling off. Once I realized it took much less input then previous years it ran awesome. Sled was fresh out of the crate and clutches engaged smooth and quiet. The sled got on top of the snow really well with the 3" and new 8T. Critiques would be the panels fit even more poorly then my zr8000 back home and the way the cut the bottom of the panels to tuck them in looks poorly done and crudely cut.

An intake can be fabbed for the new plastic and they should work on the 800, but like acmtncat said, everything from tank forward would need to be new. Im guessing $1500 min, then fabbing a new intake.

The new plastic design is awesome. Fit and finish is greatly improved. I looked over yahamas new mountain sled in west this weekend. Assuming/hoping it will be used on cats mountain sleds next year. Take a look at the new snowest magazine, page 39, gives you a great picture of how better designed the lower plastic is. Hopefully cat will do it right and narrow the chassis along with using the new platic design.

Those new rails looks scary bendy to me. I don't understand that change.

Thanks weight chasers

when i asked dealer about rails bending he said they changed the design in '15 (or was it '16?) and he hasnt seen any bent after that.
I figured theres a brace kit i could get if worried.

He was correct and wrong changed the profile in 16 and in 17 same profile just took some weight out of em like a 1.5# each

I've rode one twice now. I really liked it. It looks dang good on the snow, the pictures of it don't do justice. <style> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1073786111 1 0 415 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} @page WordSection1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --> </style>[FONT=&quot]

2017 Mountain Cat???

So, do I spring order ( till fri 22nd) a '17 Green Mountain Cat @ full retail to take advantage of the 8T Drivers & lower AOA skid, fully realizing the chain/case won't accept a higher gearing, or do I keep my Black '16 LTD and gear it up (21/49), try to fit 8T Drivers in/ live with the 7T Drivers & ignore the videos of the '17 spanking the '16 3" trackers in the deeper snow? It all just costs money to have fun!

'17?

Thanks summ8rmk, that's my thinking too. Changing the '16 LTD into a '17 MC would be a huge undertaking. According to SnoWest mag the new MC with the 8t & shallower AOA is like riding the competitions 174's for slow speed flotation but generates higher track speeds. Now just gotta get the money together cause it's probably a 5500 dollar difference in trading my '16 for a '17!

I'd be more worried about getting rid of the stupid aluminum bottom gear than trying to gear up with the top sprocket.

5500 is a lot of money just to get better attack angle imo

Only know that madmax tried fitting a 20t gear on the '17 & stated no-go even with the tensioner all the way out!

Yea, the 20T top gear won't quite fit in the 17' chaincase with the stock chain and bottom gear. Would need either a longer chain or a smaller bottom gear. Maybe a 48T bottom and keep the 19 top, that would still give you 2.52 gearing. Or 20/48 for 2.4 gearing.
