2017's are in

Here's a thought. The four stroke received new plastics because they're keeping it in this chassis for a while.

The two stroke did not get new plastic because they are tooling up for a new chassis to go with the new CTEC

I'm wondering how much they pulled the plastic in with the narrower running boards?
I haven't seen where a measurement was posted.
Any chance you could measure it and post what you find?

They didnt do a good job on it. They sucked them in at the boards but just above that they still stick out like stock. They could have just taken notes from the bmfab boards threads and figured it out. They needed to cut a little notch out above the footwell bar to make the back panel plastic fit better.

Some more pics. Different spring mount for pipe above clutch guard. Much better and offers more clearance for pipe to hood.

Extended case mod should be do able on the 16. But there will be a 1/2 moon gap in tunnel from original mounting point. Chaincase side the upper mounts in sames holes as 16. Gonna need extra protection for it though as I think youll hit both sides on stuff with how low they hang. A template will need to be made by someone.

Rails are different

New plastic

Cat has the new plastic on a sled with the 600 c-tec 2 stroke in it.
It's a limited edition Rodger skime sled.
The plastics black.

An intake can be fabbed for the new plastic and they should work on the 800, but like acmtncat said, everything from tank forward would need to be new. Im guessing $1500 min, then fabbing a new intake.

Clearance.

I was shocked by how much track to cooler clearance there is. Huge difference.

I'm also surprised with how much track to cooler clearance there is.
I'm kinda surprised they dropped the drive shaft that much.
Makes me wonder if there isn't a 3.2" or 3.5" deep lug track coming next???

I measured a bunch of stuff on the 153" at Cutler's.

Belly pan is sucked in 2.75" from my 2016. The 17 measured 30" wide right where the side panel / belly pan meets the running boards. My 16 is almost 33" in the same spot.

I was pretty impressed with the amount of changes I found while climbing around and looking at it!

I think if Cat would have had new plastics on it they would have turned the old Proclimb into a super sick sled! They came so close, but came up short and will be in second place again.

So is the body on these a little narrower then?
Thats been my hangup so far on proclimb - just feels a little fat around the tank area compared to polaris.
I like everything else and considering ordering one. just cant pull trigger yet. theyre gonna call me soon to see the '17, cant wait! Love the extended case, cat has always made it easy to run whatever track you want!

The running boards are more narrow by about 1" on each side. The plastic is pulled in on each side at the front of the running board making it narrower as well, but only at the bottom of the sled where the plastic meets the boards.

Has anyone taken the secondary apart to see if or how they addressed the noise?

Had the secondary apart yesterday. At least on the early build they are identical to the 2016 sleds. Cat released an update they anounnced at the dealer show to address the grinding/squeaking issue. They claim its in the primary, not the secondary, so that's where the fix is. The primary clutch, all the 17's will have it.
I won't get the 17's on the snow until Wednesday this week. I can say running each of them through a couple heat cycles on the track stand the clutches don't make any noise like my 16 does. We will see once they get on the snow

Highly unlikely. They will do the new 800 next year with new plastics. Keeps the sled interesting and new again without having to do the chassis. Keeps people buying them at least 1 more year. Remember they like taking baby steps.

Yup. Makes sense. New engine for 18. New chassis for 19 or 20.

My primary is starting to get noisy. My riding buddy really noticed it this weekend.

Any idea what the update is? Just curious if I should put my stock weights and spring back in before taking it to the dealer?????

Interesting, i have a team primary on my 14 and no noise.

I didn't notice the noise at first, but it's getting worse with mileage. Maybe the one you bought was already updated???

Demoed a 17 Mountain Cat in West on Friday and the clutches were noticeably quieter than the 16' limited that was also in the group. Didn't get any detail on changes.

Not much else to add. Sled handled and ran well. It was 45 degrees out and the snow was setup with a little loose on top. We only went a few miles out and ripped up and down a small hill a few times. In those conditions and the short amount of time it was hard to get a real feel on the dropped chaincase and narrower boards.
