2017 GM HD Duramax

The 10-speed is a half ton/LD transmission. It's the same one in the Raptor right now.

GM is being pretty quiet about it. It looks like the half ton will be new in 2019. Although that could mean late 2018, maybe even a summer release. Usually the HD follows the half ton, but no reason they have to do it that way. GM is always a little slow. But they are still selling a ton of trucks. We can't keep them in stock on the HD duramax side.

Interesting you say that about not being able to keep HD duramax's in stock. I see so many newer duramax models driving around, it's got to be 4:1 vs ford. I'm in the Midwest and realize it might be different everywhere else. When we were at Togwotee recently it was about 3-4:1 duramax vs every other diesel. Maybe that's because everyone at tog is from the Midwest. Haha

Update on 17 hd denali running empty at 70 mph it is averaging 21 on a 650 mile trip hand calculator. First stock truck for me to get to 20. They do use a lot of fuel and def if you leave it idle much only concern though. I'm from old diesel School so if I'm using truck all day I rarely shut it off. 8800 miles so far.

I had the same problem, on the same model year truck. Had to take the air filter out at a gas station and dig snow out of the airbox and dry the filter in the bathroom under the hand dryer.

I've got a 17 GMC Dmax and it's got pretty damn good power for a stocker. I'm pulling a fairly heavy 5th wheel and I can pull out and pass cars on the highway reasonably well.

My only complaint on the new truck is at low speeds 20-30mph, it feels like it should shift up a gear. It'll run 1500rpms ish. It's like the gear is stuck and you let off and it slows instantly and you get back to the throttle and it accelerates like RIGHT NOW.

That is what I did when looking for a 2016. I paid a few grand more for a new totally loaded new 2016 Denali then used 2015 30,000 miles and not near as many features. Couldn't be happier.

I got to where i carried a spare in the winter that was the only thing i ever had with it.

X2 on the spare air filter. It will throw a MAF code, too. Had the same issue with my 07 LBZ. Have a programmer that clears codes, too. I also had to put a fuel filter heater wrap on the LBZ - the heated filter head is thermostat controlled, and the filter head heat will shutdown when the truck is hot. Finally figured it out after a couple of low fuel rail pressure codes at -30F despite well treated fuel, and I had the filter head flow tested for obstructions, which tested fine, under warranty. Even the cert tech was not aware of how it worked at the time. Spare air filter, programmer, and fuel filter heater if you're running the D in blizzards and -30F temps long distances with a tow pulling lots of boost. JMPE. Because they start so well, they are close to unstoppable once you figure it out.

Had the same problem every winter i had it i thought i was just getting bad fuel. my 13 i have now iv never had that with this one.

With the winterfront on, it's not an issue with the fuel filter jelling once the truck is warm, without the filter heater. But, when you pull the winter front to tow at something like -30, no filter heater, the issue pops up, at least on the LBZ, LLY, LB7. I don't haul with the front on, since it starves the stock air inlet in the fender of air when boost needs are high. I'm guessing the CA dealer techs were much better tuned into this than US techs I've personally talked to at the time. It's a sad state when you've got to educate the techs, or try to, in how their trucks really work. Maybe it's better now - but I take my trucks to the stealers as little as possible, and do everything myself short of pulling turbos, etc. The trucks are only $70k+ new, what should we expect.

Just pulled from Idaho falls to Kalispel with my 17. Less than 1000 miles on the truck. 9.5 mpg running 75 mph pulling my 10k 5th wheel. Pulls like a locomotive. Great truck.

I haven't got the chance to pull yet with my '17 but compared to my '15 you can defiantly feel the extra power. Just have to see how the consumption is for DEF. On a side note if anyone is looking at new '17s check the paint over carefully. I have a nice run in the paint on the roof next to the middle roof light.

Will know about def by the time I get home, but I expect consumption will go up. The more power you make with a diesel the more nox you make. They control that with egr or def. Egr steals power. I expect that's why the size of the tank went up.

I gave the locals a shot. Couldn't even come close. They told me to buy from Laura GMC. They had used 15 not as many options used 30,000 miles I paid a couple grand more for brand new loaded Denali 2016.

Or you can support your local guy. Many of you probably work for a local business....

Short of an order, finding something like a 3500 dmax longbox SRW local is a challenge in most of the country. Laura is one of the few dealers that always have multiple to choose from, FWIW. Easy to find the 2500 6.5 boxes anywhere.
