The 6.4L makes a lot of power with a programmer!
However, at 150,000mi, sell it!

The 6.7L is Fords diesel since 2011.

GS6

Some could argue about that statement. Especially if emissions equipment were properly handled early on in its life.

.

Yeah. I'm not very happy.

Does Ford make it reasonably easy to pop the cab off?

What kind of oil?

Is that small radiator fan big enough to do the job? Holy crap that thing is big!!

I wouldn't call it easy by any means. But there are harder jobs......

Rotella 15-40. Changed every 2000 miles for the first 80,000.miles.

That was caused from cavitation behind the water pump. Erodeed away the metal all the way through. Which caused the coolant to mix with the oil. That's all the sludge.

I say 150,000 mi. because that is when quite a few engines have needed to be rebuilt but a lot of the cranks and blocks are NOT reusable! Ahhhh!

$10-15k for a whole new engine?
For that reason, the 6.4 litre scares me.

I nd to add, the 6.4l has nothing to do with this thread. It is the previous engine to what is currently available.

I Definitely have read and heard of the issues for sure which makes me very conscious and aware of things. I also do an oil analysis about every 3 oil changes. So far so good for me in about 100k.

You changed your oil every 2,000 miles? What a waste. There is an argument that you are doing more harm by changing it that often. The additives to always fully active.

With that said that motor is a mess, sorry to hear that.

Anyone that has a diesel, you need to make sure at some point you are driving them hard. These motors need to get hot and cook out the soot and other junk once a week.

Yeah. Just Somthing the dealership told him to do when he bought it. I told him that it was ridiculous..........

This failure didn't have anything to do lubrication though. Some people say that it's from nut running 100% Ford GOLD coolant. Some say it's from air bubbles in the coolant... I dont know for sure why it did it, but I don't like it. Found several good sized exhaust leaks on the pressure side, rear main is leaking,. where the dip stick enters the block was leaking. Been the worst most expensive work truck we have, guess you could say it's "nickel and dimed" us but in this trucks case it's more "$100 billed us" substantially.

I think the 6.7 is in the realm of the 7.3 reliability from everything Ive read & heard.

But does anyone really know exactly what they changed on the 2nd gen for 2017?"

I don't think anyone will know until about August is my guess. I think they're keeping everything hush hush because supposedly gm is coming out with a new duramax and seems like everyone is keeping their numbers quiet.

From what I've heard it's still the 6.7 just getting more power and torque out of it. That's all I know.
