2016 team clutch

After riding the new 2016 M8, had to pull it apart to see the Team clutches. After 40 miles of riding it was still only pulling 7450 rpm on a hard pack hill at 9500 feet.
Clutch came off and apart just like the cat clutch. The spring and weights are different.
Clutches weigh exactly the same, 12.4lbs. With the addition of the steel spider in the Team clutch I was hoping they would still weigh the same. The steel ring is still on the back.

The clutch weights and pins definitely won't interchange from the old clutch to the new Team. The spring in the Team is just a little larger in diameter, about an 1/8th inch. The installed and compressed measurements seemed to be the same, but didn't have my micrometers to measure exactly. The sled came with 70 gram Team weights, I don't know what spring it is yet in the primary. Secondary comes with a Team 43 straight helix.

Cat spring on top of the Team. You can see it's just a little larger in diameter..

Looks like the outer cover bushing is much more engaged with the shaft on the Team than the Cat clutch at engagement. Also looks like the cover and bolts will be easier on the side panel than the current Cat clutch. Both good things.

I don't suppose you checked to see if the socket for the spider nut is the same?

That sure looks like a lot of tip weight for the 800's power curve, looks like a whole new learning curve for clutching!

I was thinking the exact same thing when I seen the tip of the team weight. Maybe with the steel spider and not knowing the compression rates of the spring they will work. Maybe that is why he could only get 7450 for RPM. You would think they would have figured that out before they put the sleds out for people to test on them. What elevation was the sled supposed to be clutched for? 6000 Feet?

he said he was 9500 ft ! 70gr as we all know will be to much and as said heavy tip.
clutch could have many different design changes as roller diameter and roller/pin location.
but still, heavy tip ! :face-icon-small-sho

that is a bit heavy for riding that high, no wonder he was only pulling
7450 rpm's. Poo's come with 68 gram weights from the factory for
riding 0-3000 ft here in AK.

Your issue is only than your weight is too heavy, i ride one 16' M8000 LTd today at 3000ft with stock setup (6000ft) and overspeed at 8200-8300rpm very stable!

I looked over a 16 today. The clutches look really good. There is more room between the side panels and the primary. I will put the new primary on my 14, secondary also. After narrowing the front end with the skinz kit, my primary is eating the sh!t out of the side panel and lower panel. Have wore a nice little grove in the primary cover from the rivet. I don't think the new primary will contact.

Overall the 16 looks really good, the green is killer. The new a-arms do make it more challenging putting the side panels on.
