2016/17 Togwotee Snow Conditions

Here now. Advice is wait for more snow. Everything is heavily tracked up and what isn't tracked is really setting up quick.

We struggled to find anything decent today deep in the trees.

Spoke to another group and they were calling it quits after today. We were going to ride through Friday, but will probably pull out of town Tomorrow, if we even ride tomorrow.

So long as you are willing to go deep into the forest, there was NO shortage of good snow, you just have to get back in the woods.

Everything out in the open is beat and HARD.

After driving over 16 hours to get here, we're always willing to go wherever we need to in order to find the snow.

The sun and warmer temps have really taken a toll the past couple of days. Yes, anything in the open is completely setup and in some areas almost concrete hard already.

We did find some in the trees as mentioned, but that is also setting up due to the warmer temps.

If I wasn't out here, based upon current conditions, i wouldn't get in the truck to drive 16 hours + for the snow/conditions that are here right now.

Good thing though, trails are extremely smooth, if that is your thing, and plenty of parking in all of the lots!

Just got here from Iowa. Think we'll give it a try anyway. Bet we find untracked good snow. And, I'm not at work!!!

Snow - Great snow vs. Lots of snow...

Guys, i get it, Tog has a LOT of snow right now. There is massive amount of snowpack. Here is what i'm saying though.

Two pics attached;

First one - This is GREAT snow to ride in... (snowies last year)

2nd one is yesterday in Tog.

yes, there is a ton of snow here and it's deep, but it is not deep powder.

yes we ventured deep into the woods and found what seemed to be untouched snow this year in a few places. Issue is, the warmth has really set up the snow pack and there is at best 6-8" of soft snow on top of the hard pack at best.

Most of the snow is very wet and best described as hero snow.

Bigrig you have any pics by chance? Was looking to come out but after seeing previous post of this snow I'm debating now... tia

That's what I'm looking for also pics of snow in the trees! Snow out in the open always settles out fast.

Snow was more setup on Sunday as compared to Saturday. I would imagine that it is getting pretty set up except in the shaded tree areas. Still tons of fun. But have to look a little hatred for untracked areas. The further east, and higher in elevation we got from togwotee mountain lodge the better the snow was.

Springtime snow. Everyone stuck. Untracked all day. 7 hours,33 miles.got to look for it. Not 3 miles from lodge. Bouncing up from Dubois. Ya its worth it!! No pics from this phone, yet. Sorry..

Rode 2/23-2/26. About 18"-24" new the day before we showed up. Out in the open it was tracked up and settled out quickly. The farther away from the lodge and the deeper in the trees the better. We had no problem finding untracked snow deep enough to get some good stucks all 4 days.

Group of 4 guys from IowaBoondockers are coming next Wednesday and riding the 16th 17th and 18th.

How are the conditions? Looks like some snow forecasted.

We have never ridden the area before... We always ride the Snowy's and Steamboat area.

We all are experienced guys with avy bags, beacons, and new sleds.

Would anyone want to ride with us and show us around? We arent really into hill climbing... we like the steep and deep zones and tree riding.

We will buy you dinner :face-icon-small-win

PM here or text 319-310-9485

Is road open from Jackson to Togwotee during winter? Any sort of bus or taxi service to get back and forth? Thinking about flying to Jackson and then up to Tog to meet some guys for the weekend.
