2015 Ford Super Duty uping the ante

Glenn, what's the scare about the 6.7?

I think a lot of it is people who may not have all of the information.

The 6.7 has been pretty solid. The cab and chassis version, which is different from the pickup version, had more issues. Although it sounds like Ford has got most of the worked out.

Now they have a second gen 6.7 which should really work well for folks at higher elevations like myself.

Read the powerstroke forums.

For the 2011-2014 models the amount of turbo and radiator failures is a little scary.

Then add cp4/fuel system problems which ford refuses to stand behind. That is the upsetting part. The Dmax cp4 has had far fewer issues but at least gm is taking care of people. I will stick with the very reliable cp3 pump on the cummins.

Then add the valve issues with the 2011s.

There is also an article in the current diesel power discussing how the current engine is at its max power and how the engine has been failing with added power.

Now they are improving the engine for 15 but who knows if it will hold up. For the above reasons I'm not going to roll the dice on it.

Also I don't like the soft frame on the super duty. It flexes a lot more then the Chevy or ram.

That being said my ecoboost f150 has been great and wouldn't hesitate to get another ford. However, at the moment I feel like the ram is the best overall truck right now. The cummins is solid, the 2500 coil spring rides great, the interior is the best out there and the price is lower.

The Dmax and Allison is great package but I just find the gm truck ugly and I don't like the ifs. I despise the low hanging def tank as well. The 2015 interior is big improvement though.

Just my 2 cents

There is something in the neighborhood of 500,000 6.7 powerstrokes on the road now. I would think that most of what is read about on the internet is only folks with a issue, and feel a need to vent. Same as on here with snowmobiles. Very rarely do we come across posts that start out with "This is the best ____________ (insert brand or subject).

Most of the oh my motor blew stories also have beef and or bone to pick with someone or the manufacturer.

I know there have been issues with the 6.7. And imagine ford has taken care of lots more than they have denied.

But the cummins and duramax have issues as well.

Right now if a person is in the market for a new diesel you'd be hard pressed to find a bad choice since the competition is do strong between Ford, GM, and Ram.

Had a chance to take out an f350 2015 for a test drive.
Quite the truck, no doubt about it.

While the internet people posting when they have trouble is true when you see the problems over and over you know it's an issue.

I also know someone who had a bunch of problems with a 13 Powerstroke
F350. Ford couldn't fix the problems and he had to get rid of the truck.

Yes I know the cummins and duramax aren't perfect but you just don't see the major failures on those engines. Their issues are more check engine light or emission related. You don't see the engines failing and turbos going out on the cummins or duramax forums.

I also hate how tight it is under the hood of the Powerstroke and how the cab has to come off to do major repairs. The cummins has a lot of room and the Dmax is In between.

I hope ford has the engine figured out for 2015. Maybe it will be a great engine. Maybe they will go backwards have more issues though. We will see. After the 6.0 and 6.4 flop I would wait a few years to see how it goes

When to try the 250, but they only had a pair of 350s.
Drove the "platinum" edition.
Truck had more plastic inside of it that I would have liked.
Suspension felt brutally hard, even stiffer than my +1 F250, and I think its a stout ride.

Seats were also very firm, might just be new foam, not sure.

Liked the creature comforts, and the very quiet engine.

Seemed like there was an odd hiccup on acceleration getting on the freeway. Would need more driving time to be sure, but the gear shifting might be off just a bit as it didn't seem to roll on the power as smoothly as I would have expected. though it did have LOADS of power.

What I really need to do is hook up my 30ft trailer for 4 Yamahas in it and drive it over to the dealer. Then hook up a F250 to it and take it for a pull up Ashton Mountain and see how it really performs. That is the only real world test. Then swap it out with a new Eco-Boost and get the SIDE-BY-SIDE, Back-To-Back comparison so I can make an informed decision.

I will say though, $65,000 is a heck of a lot of money to spend on a new truck!

I thought these videos were interesting. Seems that GM and Ram are both picking on Ford as neither video compares the Ram to the GM.

I especially like how the Ford tailgate actually dents in one of the videos.

I feel my F150 is frame is pretty flexy as well. I kinda expect that in a half ton but I feel the heavy duties should be a little stouter.

The Super Duty is definitely do for a refresh. Interior is looking dated compared to the 2015 LTZ Silverado and the 2013+ Ram. Exterior looks good but really isn't much different then it was in 1999.

Hold on, It's only a 3/4 ton truck. 4 Yamaha's at one time......You should look towards a full on 18 wheeler for pulling 4 of them at once.

but on a serious note your comments about the interior and ride are the same that I have from a couple buddies that are both running earlier model F-350 (a 2011 & 2012 I believe).

While its hard to say for sure, it will be either the 2016 or the 2017 model that gets the full update just like the F150 is getting it this fall.

What?
I bought my 2000 in Dec of 99. Sold it in July of 2013. Had it a LONG time. My 2012 is EXTREMEMLY different than my 2000 both inside AND out.

Headlights, grille and tailgate are the only things that look much different.

Couldn't a guy put put a 2015 tailgate and front clip on there 99 and make it look like a 15?

Yeah, but who the heck would pay MSRP? Invoice price is readily available online and the dealer gets incentives on top of that...

I paid $2,000 less than invoice on my '14 CCSB Lariat

Interior is vastly different. That bubble look is VERY gone from the early 2000s.

Christopher, and who's going to spring for the platinum edition when they are counting pennies?
