2014 Snowcheck - E-start or no E-start?

I'm starting to think real hard about what sled I want to snow check. What is your opinion on adding E-start for $400? I am pretty much decided on an LE.

Pro - E-start only costs $400 - as an add-on it's $900 and it's damned convenient.

Con - E-start adds weight - any idea how much? And it IS another $400 on top of $12,500 plus tax.

How do you think it will affect re-sale? Everything is headed towards convenience. I can still very well remember when reverse started to come on the scene.

Thoughts and opinions?

This thread is about E-start and E-start only. If you want to bash or complain do it on some other thread please. It seems like every thread on here gets jacked by somebody.

No brainer for me. $400 to add weight...makes no sense. These sleds are not difficult to pull over. I don't put much stock in resale....I buy what works for me, not the next guy in line.

Get the E-start on your Snowcheck

My 2013 Pro LE is the first sled that I've owned with ES and it is an arm/lower back saver IMO. This past weekend late in the day's ride I was stuck once and helped another rider get unstuck twice in deep snow.

Once we got the stuck sled out of the trees pointing down hill all I had to do was turn a key to start my sled.. my arms felt like rubber bands at that point. My energy reserve helped me get back down the hill to the parking lot.

There are several aftermarket light weight battery options available if you want to save weight over a factory battery. Total weight of an ES is 25lbs.

What do you want? akrevrider has a good point but.... I am 50 and starting it is the least of my troubles, even after digging out from a good stuck. For me light weight means, less energy used riding and getting unstuck. That is why I bought it:face-icon-small-coo

When I can't pull a motor over, I'll get e-start. These motors pull over waaaaaaay too easy as it is.

I had it on my 09 d800 and its on my ?12 pro I'll be adding es to my 14 163 pro as well.you can not feel the weight I've ridden both back to back there is no noticeable diff.

Get it....

$400 for a switch to start your sled forever... Well worth it, I have had it on three sleds now and will have it on every one I purchase from here on out. If you are worried about weight, do some sit ups. May not help with resale value, but may help yours sell over someone else's.
My two cents

Have you seen how close the battery is to the QD? If the strap for the battery were to fail, it would be all over.

No thanks for this guy. My 13' SBA pulls over like butter. Being young and dumb I'll take the weight savings.. Buuut its good for resale for sure

I'd go for the ES. It's nice to have when your stuck in a tight spot or on a steep hill. It's very nice to be able to reach over and hit the key and start it. I got it on the 13' Pro LE I bought for my fience knowing she'd like it but I find myself forgetting I dont have it on my 12' Pro and trying to start it with the key also lol. My next sled will definitly have Es!

These are all good points. For most it is personal preference.
Pros: Easy to start when your in a bad spot (stuck in the trees):face-icon-small-dis or wore out from digging.
Cons to me: Hard to replace the QD belt when/if it fails. Look under the panel at the dealer. You will see what I'm talking about. Now, think about when and where you are when it fails. Murphys law says I will be stuck upside down on a hill in the middle of no where in a snowstorm....Why do I always find those spots to brake down?? Lol

INteresting to note how many of the older guys are for the e-start. When I hit 45 I put reverse on my 2 smoke and when I got the 4-stroke the key was AWESOME When you're young no problem not so much on the other side of 50:juggle:

Beg to differ

You start your sled a dozen or more times a day, why would you pass up a great option because something else around it may, might, could someday or maybe never break or fail?
