2013 demo ride-my review

whats with the thumbs down for a seemingly great review? he wasnt biased and didnt slam on any brand, just seemed happy to ride a great sled...

I also got to ride the new XM on Saturday. For me it wasn't a problem to sidehill the XP chassis. The '12 is cake and the '13 is even easier and takes half the effort. I got to ride a Pro-RMK side by side for comparison. It felt equally as easy to get up on its edge if not a tad easier. Both have a narrow stance and is easy to stay there. The XM has a "sweet spot" that when its on its edge it take little effort to keep it there. For me personally, as a hillclimb guy, I would need the 40" stance. Its just a little too tippy for me(so is the '12). The track hooks up well and the Tmotion transfer plenty of weight. It needs the limiter strap taken up one hole as it likes to wheelie more than I prefer('12 does it too). I ride a '09 163X so that probably has something to do with it. I thought the valving on the shocks was sweet. It felt very comparable to my Zbroz custom valved shocks. One thing I really noticed between the PRO and the XM is the Poo has a heavy steering feel compared to the XM and I disliked how the ends of the bars would be in your thigh at full turn. The PRO was stock other than some motor work. Power wise the Etec matched the power of the ported, piped PRO. I really liked the air frame style boards, they were rigid and didn't allow snow to collect. Considering the XM only had 15 miles on it, it ran very good. If your a boondock guy, I think you will love the changes!

I had a demo ride today at Seeley Lake. The conditions were awesome. Smaller hills were a challenge....especially on this POS. I have own Ski Doos since 99 but I will no longer be on one. The T-motion to me was a bandaid for the xp which the xm is just an xp with different plastics..the guide even said this. I have never felt more unstable on a sled before. I actually didn't even what to ride it after the 1st hour...it had a mind of it's own and seemed to like to head towards trees. We got the BEST terrain to test these things...steep, deep, and trees. I HATED it until I tightened up the front and rear suspension...then it was OK...seemed similar to the old xp. The T-motion won't be around long OR they will refine it and it will become the best thing since the Rev. For now....no thank you. Oh and ski doo went from the BEST trail handling sled to the WORST...it just rolls in the corners. Again once I tightened up the suspension it was much better but it holds no candle to the Pro in ANY application. I am disappointed since Doo has always set the bar with each new chassis.

You had that hard of a time riding it eh? Sounds to me you better get an apron and start cooking. There's a man out there somewhere, looking for a good woman. :face-icon-small-ton

I usually get a new sled every two years but I might have to bite the bullet and spring order a T-ETEC 2013 for next year!! My dealer is offering a 2013 163 X package with an aerocharger turbo set up at 8 pounds of boost (240 HP) with a 3" track and different drivers. I just hope the wife lets me write the check!! :face-icon-small-ton

:moony:

Let??!!!

I knew I was going to get some keyboard racer talking chet about my OPINION. I've been riding for over 20 years PJ, so you can suck on my pink taco. It might have been setup up wrong or maybe something was bent or broken, I should have traded sleds to see if it did the same thing. After stiffening up the front and rears it was much better and would have liked to have a Pro to try the same lines with the same snow conditions to compare...maybe it was the snow??

I did just start working for a Polaris dealer but the mark up on these things is only $500 so if I am going to spend almost $12,000 what is $500 less???
I am also not rich....I work at a dealership...so if I am going to spend that kind of money I want the best machine that suites me the best. If I loved the sled I would said I did and probably bought one even working for a Polaris dealer....just would have to make sure our customers didn't know what I was riding.:face-icon-small-win

The T-motion is going to be a love it or hate it thing. One kid that was on the demo ride absolutely loved it.

I had the exact same impression, except i thought the steering was too light on the XM and just right on the Poo. Opinions are like FredW's i guess!

I thought the T-motion skid transferred too much as well. I could post my GoPro footage if it helped. I filmed riding the XM and Pro back to back. They were VERY even in climbing in the steep and deep. XM was hanging the skis about 12" off the snow or more, and Pro had them just skimming the top of the POW. I was able to pull off off-camber up hill turns on both sleds going both directions with ease on some pretty steep terrian. The XM body panels carved right through the snow and didn't hang up or grind on the panels. I could feel the difference in weight between the two sleds, but it was minimal while riding, more noticable when stuck :)

Final thoughts = you can't go wrong with either a Pro or an XM. I liked them both. It's a great time to be buying new iron! Two excellent choices. I think I'm leaning towards the Pro still, but Polaris pricing and snowcheck warranty offer on March 5th may dictate which way i go.

Just some thoughts about the trail handling characteristics of the xm, and the pro for that matter. I think its about time these sleds started riding poorly on the trails. By that I mean that it seems like they are finally starting to try and make mountain specific sleds. I think to have the best deep and steep boondocking monster, you're going to have to sacrifice some sort of on trail performance. Its about time they realized that it takes more then just throwing longer tracks, narrower ski-stances and a different set of stickers on a trail machine to get the best performing sled for the conditions they are being rode in. And the great thing is that if you're not willing to sacrifice your trail experience, or if you just find the sleds to unstable for your type of riding, there's always the freerides and assaults out there. All in all I'm pleased with the way the manufactures are heading in their mountain segments.
