2013 demo ride-my review

I think the t-motion skid will do fine with a turbo, sense its a new skid it will just take some time finding new settings for the skid

Rode the Xm today this sled will dominate the market. Better sidehill ability then the pro with excellent power. And I heard Snomobilers gramma was the in field test rider for the T-motion!

you had me until you said the 2013 154 would out climb the 2012 163. :moony:

I read the review from highmark289 a couple of days ago and liked how things sounded...but when I read that it climbed better than a 12' I too was a skeptic. Hmm same engine, track and weight how could the XM climb any different?

I was able to ride the 13 yesterday and without a doubt it climbs better! I own a 12' 154 and switched back an forth to confirm the way the new machine performs. The new skid geometry improves deep snow performance without question. I was blown away by the complete package.

Thank you BEANS, the new skidoo is awesome! Snowcheckdirect.com has great prices too guys

Just looking at the skid geometry it should do much better on the hills and in the deep...shallower approach and rear scissor position should keep the nose down better.

How was the bump ride compared to the 12?
Did it seem darty on the road? If there was a road-

I don't doubt at all that a 154 that was setup with all of the right things in the skid would outclimb a 163. It doens't happen that way alot, but the rear suspension, track choice, approach and setup can be a big game changer.

After getting some decent seat time on several 12's and thousands of miles on my 09, i noticed some big factors. the 12's had one thing the 09 never had before the skid and track mods. The 09' would never get on top of the snow. After relocating the center shock mount point on the rail 1.25" forward, it changed everything. The sled now pops out on top of the snow, like the 12's and the polaris pro. But its better than the 12'. Much more controlable lift. Thats all on the skid. And a good track that doesn't trench to china is one of the biggest factors. The stock pro track, the doo 12' 2.5" track, and the in my case, the 9103 camoplast extreme.

The track change, the skid change along with an adjustable limiter kit and heavier rear torsion springs, gas charge in the shocks were all big players in that magic combo on my sled. Clutching and gearing along with the new cooling cover really unlock the potential on these sleds. The new CVT cover especially. Gone is that heat fade I used to always get. I can't get it to fade now, now matter how hard i push it.

Even with a heavy rider and lots of gear and gas, you should be able to pull into a very tight, deep and soft spot in the trees pointing up hill. You should be able to go slow, almost stuck slow, and digging a bit, then gun it and pull away and build speed the entire time uphill.

Last ride in island park we found some decent powder in the trees and shaded sides. Deep enough that if you stepped off your sled, you went hip deep if you werent' careful.

If your sled just has all kind of rpm and song, without alot of go go. Gear down. If your sled rips your arms off but falls flat on those big climbs, gear up. If at anytime when you go WOT, and the engine zings past 8150 to 8300-8500. Add pin Weight! If it holds Rpm, but falls flat or has rpm without the go go, address gearing again.

Eventually you'll hit a combo that gets great mileage, hill climbs awesome and never quits, and lets you rally on the trail and bumps. When they run super tight, thats when all the work really pays off, and the fun and grins begin.

I'm super siked about the new Xm. Seeing what my little changes did to my 09' and seeing alot of the same workings on the Xm skid, I think it has the potential to be a real player in the mountains. That sled that just kicks azz all the time, in every kind of snow. At least i hope.

your comparing a 154 to a 154... that's plausible.

Correct uker7, the 13's r going to set a standard, just like the xp in 08, the xm flat works, I was blown away how it climbed, we did mostly technical tree riding with them, down hill turns and stuff, which I think shows the best on how a sled can climb, now on point and shoot hills, track length usually aways wins cuz how how big of a foot print the track has, we never did a straight up climb off cuz of avy danger last week

I got to demo the 2013 yesterday as well and all I can say is "wow'! I currently ride a 2012 163 X and the 2013 is a dream to ride in comparison.

To respond that the 154 would out climb the 163....I would say it definitely can. I would have to say it is the new approach angle that would make the difference.

What I really found amazing about this sled was the ability to turn on a dime. I rode trees the entire time except for the trail ride in and all you do is lean and it goes where you want it to go. (at least in the deep) As others have said, it does not handle great on the trail but not many of us ride trail!

I usually get a new sled every two years but I might have to bite the bullet and spring order a T-ETEC 2013 for next year!! My dealer is offering a 2013 163 X package with an aerocharger turbo set up at 8 pounds of boost (240 HP) with a 3" track and different drivers. I just hope the wife lets me write the check!! :face-icon-small-ton

What this sled is going to do is turn average riders into great riders!

I got my 2013 summit x on thursday and have 300 miles on it now....mostly deep days! Summit Seeker is right the sled is more amazing everytime I ride it...the attack angle the way it floats...seriously dont ride one unless your purchasing one..I wont ride my freeride for the rest of the season...I am the luckiest boy on the planet...today was especially good!

In some open trees..

Nice pics Dave!

Took my test ride

All i have to say is holy ballz. Well you guys are right about its trail manners, which like the rest of you i dont really care to much about. the 2013s are amazing. i cant say to much about how it handles compared to an xp cause i ride a rev an have little time on an xp. but after i got off the xm an rode my rev this afternoon i about cried. on the xm all you have to do is just shift your weight slightly an the sled responds immediately we were riding in two feet of fresh in places an the xm stayed on top an just rolled side to side like a feather. It had me just point an shooting instead of planning like i normally would with my rev. the xm is definitely a game changer an will have no problem keeping up with the pro

Why do you think it outclimbed the 2012. not lighter, similar track and rear suspension. I'm just a little surprised that was your finding. Awesome, that it did, just don't see why. any ideas?

i agree... the 13's float on top! easier handling and great flotation... i rode one in about 2 feet of fresh and i was crawling uphill with ease and no trenching!

I had a demo ride today at Seeley Lake. The conditions were awesome. Smaller hills were a challenge....especially on this POS. I have own Ski Doos since 99 but I will no longer be on one. The T-motion to me was a band-aid for the xp which the xm is just an xp with different plastics..the guide even said this. I have never felt more unstable on a sled before. I actually didn't even want to ride it after the 1st hour...it had a mind of it's own and seemed to like to head towards trees. We got the BEST terrain to test these things...steep, deep, and trees. I HATED it until I tightened up the front and rear suspension...then it was OK...seemed similar to the old xp. The T-motion won't be around long OR they will refine it and it will become the best thing since the Rev. For now....no thank you. Oh and ski doo went from the BEST trail handling sled to the WORST...it just rolls in the corners. Again once I tightened up the suspension it was much better but it holds no candle to the Pro in ANY application. I am disappointed since Doo has always set the bar with each new chassis.

got to ride the Xm today. Big thanks to Ski Doo for getting these out on the snow for people to actually ride before buying.

I will say making the choice between a Pro and XM is going to be tough. The new XM is great sled. Very impressed. i wish i could've played with it a bit more and did some setup adjustments, but overall this is a HUGE improvement over the XP in every way. Nice job Doo. :)

I got asked if I wanted to ride the 2013 on April 13th. I accepted but too bad that it's April 13th. That Spring snow is gonna be a different ride. I wish that I could ride one in the conditions that I like to ride in.

I did see one on RE/Buff on Saturday afternooon, but by the time I grabbed my helmet and went after them, they were already putting in the trailer and I couldn't get a real nice look.

Be interested to know who had one in Colorado this last weekend.

especially on this POS. I have own Ski Doos since 99 but I will no longer be on one.
Could this be in part due to you're now working at a Polaris dealer. The new XM a POS, really?? Just wondering if you were working at Doo dealer if your evaluation would differ?
