2012 cylinder Vs. 2013 Cylinder 800 Pro

Delete - not even worth going there with you nor Kelsey. Get a bottom end and compare mounting holes yourself and then get back to me in your "legit" information post.

2013 case: 2204902 KIT-CRANKCASE 1204579 | [Incl. 2,7-11]
2012 case: 2204342 KIT-CRANKCASE 1204093 | [Incl. 2,7-11]

Are you guys really that stubborn to accept the fact that Polaris may have made some changes?! LOL

Here's Kelsey's quote from my post in April: "
"RKT

If Polaris is going put a thicker cylinder skirt on this engine , the upper case WILL have to be different as well.. There is no way to have any longer or thicker skirts without a different upper case...

So, in short, unless there are some upper case changes, the cylinder can not get thicker.

Kelsey"

So which IS it Kelsey??? Or did some imposter post in your namesake that day???

Have FUN!

G MAN

Ya know.. I do not know why I am even responding... but I am and it is a bit rediculous.. But here goes..

The "quote" you have posted from me, does NOT dispute or doubt ANY claim of changes to the 2013.. I am merely making an observation that if the cylinder is to get thicker, then the upper case will also have to change (which it has) .. Again.. just an observation..

Again, simply adding some information about what other changes would have to be made to accomodate a thicker cylinder skirt..nothing more

For the life of me, I can not see ANY wording that has me doubting anything you posted..but if you see it different..I will no longer argue because it is pointless...

If you still feel Crow is in order..Crow is best served with Cheese.

Anyway. I was happy for the "heads-up" you offered and was hoping it was going to be true.. Always nice to have some advance notice on any product changes

I will look closer today at the 2013 cylinder and see if I missed anything.. But I have to send it off today for stripping.. so, today is the day before it is altered and returns as a big bore..

If I find something I missed,,, I will let ya know.. I already mention that if the crank is offset in the cases, or the upper case halve's mount holes are offset, this will change things. But I, currently, do not have the complete engine.. and determining if the crank is offset would not be visible to the eye.. so, we are just going to have to go by the cylinder until somebody with mor time than I decides to tear a 2013 lower end apart

ladies?? did someone say ladies??!! Just checking threads out and saw that there was a shout out to the ladies so I thought I would say hi!! ;) hehehehe, kidding, sorry, back to your regularly scheduled programming I'm running a 12 858 this season so curious but not even stressing about the cylinder/piston issues... Just being a punk! ;):bounce:

Calm down dude!

# 1 - I'm not with RKT

# 2 - I'm not stubborn, I simply want clarification on the changes that were made to the 2013 cylinders(or engine)

I noticed your post months ago about the changes to the 2013 cylinders & since then have been optimistic that there may be hope for the 800 engine that doesn't come in the form of a $4500 - $6000 big bore kit or some other expensive long rod/cylinder spacer modification.................

Bottom line is that many people here are hopefull that there have been significant improvements to the 800 power plant that will address the higher than normal cylinder skirt failure rate, myself included...............Whether that comes in the form of a longer rod, thicker cylinder skirts, better blue-printing on the piston to cylinder wall clearance, or all three doesn't matter to me as long as it works..............Not only do I welcome any improvements, as a consumer I demand them!!!

That being said I'd really like to know what actual changes have been made so I take any opportunity I can to get what info. is available however, reading your first two posts on this thread would've left anyone scratching their head as the part description that you posted "3022449 Cylinder, SDI Mono, Offset" contradicts your statement of "Cylinders themselves of course will not show any signs of being offset - it is how they mount to the lower end" - Do you not agree???

I don't have a big bore kit or "fix kit" to peddle, I'm just another fellow snowmobiler that begrudges spending money on something that should've been designed properly out of the chute.................So if you've got a pi$$ing match going with RKT, good for you, it seems to be the going thing............Just leave me out of it. :face-icon-small-win

I'm stubborn enough to think Poo didn't make changes, hell they have only been selling a pos engine for 7 yrs now. What maybe its not stubborn its reputation.

Anyway, When you guys get it all figured out could you start a new thread that states the specific changes made to the motor So I don't have to get dumber reading through all that bickering.

Thanks for taking the time to figure it out though!

Thanks Kelsey,

Do you have any opinion on how much smaller the coolant passages seem to be on the newer cylinder compared to the 12' in your pic?? The overall volume appears to much less than the 12' cylinder.

Hopefully base gasket sealing remains a non issue.

Like Indeep stated, this change happened in 2010 also. The 08's and 09's didn't start breaking skirts until Polaris changed the piston's in 2010 which were part of the infamous 2010 update for the 08-09's. Polaris felt rather than poor mapping, the original 08-09 single ring pistons were scuffing because they were too tight. But they never broke skirts. Hmmmm....

I just saw Gman's truck at the chiropractor. He had a strained shoulder and neck from patting himself on the back too much.

The coolant passages, I think you are referring to, are blind holes.. they do not connect to the main coolant stream.. ALL other coolant features of the 2013 look identical to the 2012..

Did you buy a 2013 by any chance????? Cause it seems that you are really trying to make a case for Poo.

Nothing wrong with that but would be nice if you had an engine or cylinder so you could post some real world info instead of basing your argument from part numbers. I dont want to start a flaming, just would be refreshing to have everyone agree one way or the other

Daggerboat
apparently doesn't like the truth,

Seems odd Polairis would change the part # of the cylinder AND put "OFFSET" in the description...same with the base gasket - 5813826 GASKET, CYL BASE, 800LE, OFFSET. Those crafty Polaris guys just wanted to see what discussions this would stir up on the forums...haha j/k.

Go ahead and joke; I took a boatload of flack when I first posted which was an attack on my integrity. I guess I should have expected that tho as a lot of snowest members don't know me and if it sounds too good to be true... you know the rest.

Who are you again, lol. There may be changes, the real question is will it make any difference.

BTW, if you stand behind what you say, I would not say I was attacked but rather challenged. Thats what this site is all about

Duh, Thanks. Remembered after posting when I moved a paperweight last night.

Can somebody, please compare the bottom case part number of the 2012 to the 2013.
So, the lower case half,,, Did some checking on the entire engine. But need to verify if the 2013 and 2012/11 lower case half is the same part #..

Please let me know

Thanks
