2011 DURAMAX

Really??? Name me one..... What did Ford have for a diesel before the 6.9??? Nothing... The 6.9, 7.3, 6.0, and 6.4 were ALL made by INTERNATIONAL NOT ford. The 6.9 was built by International in 1978 and not put into a Ford truck until 1983 so by my math that would be 27 years of International diesel motors in Ford trucks.... Get your facts straight

Sure. Not in a P/U but in other things. I know about the International is not Ford. Open your mind just a little here! Ford has been making Diesels (for other things) for a while!

I would like to apologies to the TS for helping derail your thread lol. My original post was just to show how well they have been performing in test so far. I prolly shouldn't have made any Ford comments lol I didn't think everyone was gonna get so offensive.

I am done now.... IMO the 2011 Durmax is awesome, I will own one next year, I ahve decided to keep mine another year till they get the ECMs cracked on the LML's

Here is a post I made on another forum about my comparison between the GMC 2500HD and the F-250:

So I have to admit...I ordered an F-350 but after the pickuptrucks.com review I was starting to wonder if I should look at the GM's again. Especially since I absolutely love my 09 Yukon XL. Well last week my local GMC dealer got a Duramax 2500 SLT CrewCab in so I had to go take it out.

Walking around the GMC I can say that I LOVE the lines of the truck. (GMC ONLY. The hood on the Chevy is FUGLY!!) In a nutshell the GM looks a lot more "sporty" than the Ford. Especially with the new cab lights and 20" polished aluminum wheels. I REALLY liked those!

The leather interior was pretty much the same as my Yukon so no surprises there. Comfort wasn't bad. However, when I drove the truck I felt the side of the seats pinched my lower back a little. I also noticed that there was a lot of engine noise at cruise compared to the Ford. Seriously the Ford is so quiet most of the time you can't tell you are in a diesel.

Anyway, the first place I drove the new Duramax to was the Ford dealer. I backed it in right next to an '11 F-250 to do some comparisons. Obviously the Ford has a larger appearance. It definitely looks more than 300 lbs heavier to me. I laid down between the trucks and look at the guts. I was VERY impressed with how much nicer and beefier the Sierra's drive shaft was. Definitely a nice set up. I did notice however, that the GM has A LOT of exposed wiring running along the outside of the frame. Also the DEF tank is below the bottom of the frame!!!! I didn't care for that a whole lot. Another thing that was glaring with the trucks sitting side by side was how much nicer the mirrors are. Not only were the GM's smaller, but the don't offer the power extension (not a big deal to me to be honest) NOR do they offer power folding. That IS a big deal to me cause I like to run through the car wash once in a while.

The next thing I compared was the interior. (Lariat vs SLT leather) This one was not even close. Being 6' 2" 240 lbs the Ford just fits me better. The front seats don't pinch my sides in the Ford like they do in the GM. The seats are also MUCH plusher were as the Sierra was pretty firm. Much firmer than my Yukon which surprised me.

Another huge factor for me was the back seat. With the driver seat in a comfortable position for me I jumped in the back. With the Ford I had about 3 inches from my knees to the back of the seat in contrast to the GM where my knees touched. I also was able to put my feet around 4-6 inches further forward which gave me a much more comfortable back seat in the F-250.

After looking over everything I could think to compare I took the Sierra back to the dealer and returned to drive the Ford again. The differences were glaring to me. The GM was MUCH louder while driving. You ALWAYS knew you had a diesel while the Ford was almost silent unless you were getting on it. I do like the sound of a diesel but I can see where the constant drone could be fatiguing on a long drive in comparison.

The next thing I noticed was the ride quality on the Ford was MUCH better and less harsh than the GMC. I noticed a lot more shudder and bed bounce on the GMC than the Ford. The Ford was carlike in comparison.

Well after it was all said and done I was very pleased that I was able to confirm my original decision to order the Ford!! In a nut shell I liked the exterior of the GMC a LITTLE better than the Ford but I liked the interior of the Ford A HECK OF A LOT better than the GM.

Some side notes between the GM and the Ford:

GM - Navigation doesn't show fuel prices or whether the gas stations in the database even have diesel. NOT GOOD in the middle of no where!

GM - Navigation doesn't offer Travelink so NO RADAR. Which for me will be nice so I can navigate around lake effect snow bands.

GM - Navigation will not get latest fuel prices nor tell you if a gas station has diesel.

GM - Doesn't offer any type of LCD productivity screen. Once you see it on the Ford you WANT IT!!

GM - Only way to get heated AND cooled seats is to get the Denali. Then you have to suffer through all that god awful plastic wood.

GM - Cab is MUCH smaller and tight feeling.

GM - TINY backseat in the crewcab for adults.

Ford - Limited leather color choices. I REALLY like the color of the Titanium leather seats in the Sierra. Ford offers a similar color in some models, just not the Super Duty. They call is Stone I believe. I would have liked to have had that option.

Sorry for being so long winded. Just thought I would write a layman's comparison.

Ok now after having my F-350 for a couple months I can say I love this truck more and more every day. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Nav with Sync. It is SO NICE to be able to overlay real time weather radar over my GPS route. Now I still like the looks of the GMC but the Ford has much more "presence" than the GM. Plus I can't emphasis enough that the GM's back seat is TOO SMALL!! It's also EXTREMELY helpful when using the GPS to find gas when it actually tells you whether they have diesel or not.

Now I am not stupid enough to sit here and say any of the new 3/4 - 1 ton trucks is head and shoulders above the rest. I think everyone OWES it to themselves to DRIVE ALL THREE makes and make an INFORMED decision based on your individual needs. Buying something SOLELY the brand name is an irresponsible way to spend $50,000+. Unless of course you have a vested interest in that company. As it sits I still love my Yukon and I love my 350.

GMC stands for
"G"ive "M"e a "C"hance.
I dont care if you drive a Ford, Chevy or Dodge. There all good. Comes down to what you like best! Just like snowmobiles. What brand do you like??? Just like oil or anything else. Whatever makes you feel good! JMHO

I think that people forget how much trouble Duramaxs had in the begining. Yea they work great now. Ford wont be to far behind. But like I said, Ford is all in house. None of the other 2 are!

The only trouble duramaxes had in the beginning was injectors, which would have been major, but they extended injector warranties to 200,000 miles and replace for FREE.. The replaements completely solved the problem.......Hmmmm. All being in house is not a feat to brag about when it is all problems. I do hope their new engine has satisfactory service this time, but do not care for their style at all. All that being said, thir customers have remained loyal throughout the engine problems.......... I would not be so loyal to any company. After all, it is just a pickup, not your family.....

They are very nice trucks.
The new duramaxs we have scene come through the shop have been getting great mileage over the LMM series. The new suspension changes has improved the over all ride and inside cab noise is minimal.

Down fall:
No performance parts to this thing as of right now and looks to be about at least another 2 months.
The Back seat area is smaller then the Fords.
Not a fan of the location of the urea tank.
Still nothing with the bottom end of the motor for better strength and reliability.
Pizo injectors which have a shorter life expectancy when compared to the Bosch injector.

As for the others: We have scene many issues with the new dodge and there electronics and electronic motors/accuators. Very Poor fuel mileage.
The new 6.7 Fords have been very good in all areas with fuel mileage coming in the mid pack between the Cummins and Duramax.

Long term 100,000 mile picture I would go with first choice Ford 6.7 strong facotry transmissions that we have scene get pushed with added power and still preforma great, then it would be a close call between the Cummins and Duramax. The Cummins engine maintenance will be less then the Duramax for major repairs aside all electronic issues are resolved under warranty. Transmissions Dodge has yet to relize they have an issue. The Allison is a great trans as long as you stay up on up keep and keep the performance upgrades to a minimal. If you push the limits on her you will be spending money to upgrade. The Duramax motors and allison trans are just not made for longevity if they are worked like most people intend to work there diesel truck. You guys would be surprised how many duramaxes with over 100,000 miles are lower on compression and weak valve train.

Every diesel I have ever owned has been a Duramax so by no means is this a biased opinion just and honest opinion from a diesel shop.

I went and drove the new Chev again just to make sure I did not want one before I ordered a new truck.
First things first, the truck runs! It really is impressive how it runs for a stock truck.
As for the interior, I still cannot believe GM did that to a truck......I know they made them the same across the range of trucks for cost savings but come on!
The Chev's hood is ugly too. However, I like the looks of the GMC's hood.
Had it not been for the gawd awful interior, I think I would be ordering a GMC. They have finally built a truck that I think can compete with the other two in heavy hauling.
But it's back to Ferd for another round. We will see how they shake out again in a couple years.

what do you mean ford hasn't had a good diesel since the 7.3 and who made it international navistar so quit drinkin your bath water and buy a duramax.

I NEVER said that ford didnt have a good diesel since the 7.3... The new Ford 6.7, is built by Ford... Stay off the crack...

By the way, Crack kills

No the last good diesel for ford was the 7.3. When ford took over well there still trying. Better go back to the corn binders at least they ran. And by the way crack does kill better check the frame on your old ford.

Which old Ford? I had a 76, 79 and a 03. None have had a crack!? I do love my Sick Liter.... Never had a problem with mine. I know others have but I have had good luck with mine.

Far as I'm concerned, we all make out on this. No matter if its Ford, Chevy or Dodge. Trucks are like sleds. There all good.... Comes down to personal choice and what you want! JMHO

Your right its all about personal choice. But why are u on this site. Dont be scared just buy a chevy sounds like you have enough junk in the driveway

Duramax with Allison is a pair that will never let you down.

I'll admit, I am a ford nut, but like said before a truck is a truck they all have their goods and bads. But I have a 2005 Duramax with 220,000 miles, and it still runs like it was new. Nothing has been done to it except general maintenance. It gets 23 Highway MPG every day.

I also know several people with the new DMax and they say they are an unbelievable truck. I don't think you'll regret it.

. It gets 23 Highway MPG every day.

.

I call BS! Like FORDCJ said, they all have there ups and downs, but i have yet to see any diesel get 23mpg every day. You would have to have a heavy tailwind and only go about 60-65 to maybe see that. Yet I do believe Chvy has came along way since the earlier duramax. I believe they hold there own and are excellent riding trucks with solid a engine. And the 2011 seems they have made another great truck. and This is coming from a guy who bleeds blue!

WEll get to drive a 2011 today and maybe buy it I,ll see how different it is or not than mine, hope im not disappointed !

If they don't fix the issue of snow sucking into the air filter and going into limp mode, I won't buy another D-max. Nothing like buying a truck to go sledding and can't drive it in a snowstorm.

Ive had the 03-07 and now the 2011 d-max all crew cab dullys. The 2011 in stock form hands down better than my 07 in every way.

Built by Ford

I'm doubting that! @ least its all built by Ford. No out sourcing of the engine/tranny. JMHO

The obvious question is why Ford does not out source unitl they can get it right......??

Lets see...........6.0000000000, 6.4 not much better.......6.7, maybe, and I hope so, but their track record is pretty poor.
I am never proud of a poor decision, but that is just me.
