2011 DURAMAX

I just traded my 2007 Silverado 1500 crew LTZ 6.0 MAX in on one. I have 500miles on it and love it so far. It is has incredible power and rides and handles very nice. I hope it is dependable and relatively trouble free like my 2007 was.

They sound to be quite impressive right out of the box. I can't believe how much of a hurting they have been putting on Fords new 6.7 with all the hype of the 6.7. Poor Ford still can't get it right, still playing catch up to the Dmax after 10 years now. Guess they'll have to build a whole new motor again next year:pound:

I'm doubting that! @ least its all built by Ford. No out sourcing of the engine/tranny. JMHO

I say BS. Who's the only one that didn't take a bailout from Uncle Sugar, hmmm let me see...

Isn't GM, try again. Ford's on point.

nobody has made any argument about the bailout or anything else like that....all he was saying is that the new duramax out-performs the Powerstroke

Ford guys have always gotten defensive if you pick on them, cuz they've never had anything to back 'em up......

But on this one they had to click on a link that said "2011 Duramax", so ya know they're curious.... lol

GMC stands for
"G"ive "M"e a "C"hance.
I dont care if you drive a Ford, Chevy or Dodge. There all good. Comes down to what you like best! Just like snowmobiles. What brand do you like??? Just like oil or anything else. Whatever makes you feel good! JMHO

I think that people forget how much trouble Duramaxs had in the begining. Yea they work great now. Ford wont be to far behind. But like I said, Ford is all in house. None of the other 2 are!

I didnt mean to start a brand war ,but meant just ask about the 2011 model and what people thought of it maybe some had a 2007 or newer and traded up to it might chime in .Ive had ford ,chevy and gmc all brands make good trucks. Hope everybody has a great thankgiving day !!!

I love this post.... My 2003 GMC is at 202,000 miles. Still the original belt for cry-in out loud and nothing changed out except one wheel bearing and the fuel pump...! I have the 5.8 and would like a little more HP, but, I tow up to the 10,000 foot altitude routinely. When you consider that for every 1,000 foot of altitude increase you loose 3%, I can't complain to loudly.

Let me know when you guys get close to 150K...:face-icon-small-hap

Happy Thanksgiving and Safe riding.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I have had many new GM trucks all gassers except a 2005 Duramax. I had the 2005 for a short time and was not that impressed with it but maybe did not give it enough time to break in. All my others were 1/2 tons short box and I was having a hard time getting use to the larger truck. It did not get good mileage at all in the time I had it and did not pull like I thought it would.

The 2011 Duramax is absolutely off the hook in terms of raw power and torque. And I know people don't buy them for speed but it is super fast when you put the pedal down.

I have had more gasser,s than the duramax its funny how some get better mpg than others but I think gasser can get good or bad at the same model I currently have a duramax was thinking maybe with the zero interest and better mpg might be worth a try.

I will tell you this, I have never ever had a winter starting issue with the duramax.. 5 yrs ago in Dubois Wy. I was the only diesel that started without help after a -40 night.

maybe ford should outsource for all of there motors, gas and diesel. gm has the better motors, period. the only thing that i would say gm has a problem with is seals, they seem to always have some sort of leak(i look at alot of gms on a hoist)

I really get sick of the brand war BS especially from Ford guys who use Ford's overall dominance of the market as reasoning for ford diesels being better than others. Ford will never have any kind of legendary diesel truck. I'm no Ford expert, but how many different motors have they gone through now? And then you've got GM and the 6.6L diesel motor that they have been using since 2001, obviously it changes a little from year to year but thats just progression, taking something great and making it better. Now, lets not forget the Dodge diesels. They stuck the 5.9L Cummins straight-six motor in those trucks for almost 18 full years in several different setups (natural progression). 2007.5 they come out with the 6.7L Cummins and that motor (like all the new emissions controlled motors) can really rip with a few mods, and it's great to begin with. Not to mention they have the best factory built exhaust brake on a pickup. Ford will never be assosiated with long term drivability and reliability when it comes to diesels. I dont care what you bring to the argument here, there is just no way the Ford diesel truck program will ever have bragging rights like GM or Dodge

Ohhh and I almost forgot, do you see tons of guys going out and jamming 7.3 powerjokes in older body style GM or Dodge pickups? not so much. Im sure its been done but its not common like shoe-horning a 5.9 into an old style Ford, or any ford for that matter.

I have owned 2 6.0L powerstrokes, a 6.4L powerstroke, and 2 duramaxs (LB7, and LLY). I drove a 2011 Duramax LML and it hands down has the worse stock turbo lag of any modern diesel I have driven. Once it lights the truck moves very good. Im still not a fan of the Allison and how it shifts. If I had my heart set on a duramax I would hold out till 2012 when GM is coming out with there new turbo....Oh wait your not supposed to know that:face-icon-small-ton.

I am a Ford guy at heart, and I cant argue with your statement. I havent had the the chance to own a cummins yet...I cant wait for the day to have one. With that being said I have owned 2 6.0L powerstrokes well over 100k miles and had minor issues at that. Granted 120K is not a lot of miles for a diesel but thats all I can say I owned it for. The rest of the truck had no issues. Now my 2 duramaxs I had one had 140K and the other 190K. Both of them went through transfer cases ($1000), Rebuilt both allisons, Rear axle seals on both, water pumps on both, and constantly having issues with idler arms and pitman arms getting sloppy. The Duramax is a BA motor, but the rest of the truck is CRAP. I think Ford will have a good motor with the 6.7L though. I loved my 6.4L but the fuel economy was not good, even with a spartan 275 tune.

First off, I appreciate the real world experience behind your response (not just someone flying off the handle because I may have bashed Ford a little there :face-icon-small-hap). Second, I like to hear the good and the bad about the D-maxes and the Dutys. I know the allison tranny had a front seal problem or somthing like that in some of the older models. Personally I like the way that tranny shifts, gives you the real solid feel. I think you would like a newer Dodge with an automatic, they're very much improved from the old autos, alot more stout. When you use the exhaust brake it gives a bit of an Allison feel when it downshifts, but you dont have to use it of course. As far as the manuals, I havent been in any new 6.7 dodges with one, and Ive never been in a Ford with one. Do they even make GM diesels with a manual?

Also, Ive had my share of issues with my Dodge, but the motor and tranny have given me zero problems
