2010 M8 Boondocker PGTurbo Box Settings

Ok . . . After first ride on the new BD pump gas kit I could use a little help on the box settings. I have never played with a boondocker box before, and can say that the stock programming is not working. When I first left the parking area my EGT's were slightly passing 1300 past 1/3 throttle I started playing around with the fuel settings, and got it to hold around 1200 at WOT.
I am wondering what settings are working best on these new kits? I am riding at 4-6 thousand feet. I must say that the EBC instructions are confusing. Curious why nobody is posting anything about box settings. Currently the sled is loading up really bad at idle. Anyone else running an EBC controled kit yet that is working awesome?

I see youre in Idaho, you should talk to either Kevin at Mountain Magic Sports(mmsports) or Justin at Code red performance(snowjw) both very knowledgable and helpful. I was having the same issues with PGT m1000.....I m a terrible typer otherwise I would share some advice, however feel free to pm me your nimber:D and I would be more then happy to chat.

The EBC equipped kit we are running is working awesome. What fuel pressure numbers do you have in the boondocker box? You should also have 0's in the 3000 and 5000 ranges. The EBC needs to be calibrated when it's first installed, if you didn't do that it could be causing some problems.

I started out with all zeros in the 3000 and 5000 screens, and it was running way too lean. It was hitting over 1300 degrees at 1/2 throttle. I changed the 5000 screen to 5 15 15 and it held a nice 1200 degrees at WOT. The clutch kit they sent me is not working either, in the middle of a downhill u-turn the motor started cutting out. It sounded like rev limiter, the BD box says my max RPM was 8440. Does anyone know what the rev limiter is set at? When you mention calibration, you mean verifying that the box reads zero when at zero boost? That is the only mention of any calibrating in the instructions. If I would have left this thing on all zeros it would have melted down, damn glad I bought the EGT's

Man I feel like a complete idiot with this thing . . . I can't find any fuel pressure numbers, where do I look for that?

Update

Ok upon furthur investigation I have found that the problem with my sled is a POS EBC! The damn thing refuses to allow me to calibrate the pressure Transducer . . . It appears the unit is defective in some way. While in the ALT display at my house it reads 2.5 but while just sitting there idleing it momentarily jumps to .5 and back to 2.5 It does this on other screens as well momentarily displaying jibberish. Everytime it does this it screws up the calibration sequence. I spent a half an hour outside with my sled idleing fighting with this pile of crap! and never could get it calibrated. I am so dissapointed with this thing right now. It really needs to be able to be powered by a battery like the other box, I finally had to give up because my sled started to overheat . . . TOTAL BS!!!!!! I was so excited to get this kit, but right now I am wishing I would have left it stock. Was supposed to go riding in the morning, but looks like I get to chat with BD instead:( I am so glad to spend $5300.00 to be a beta tester

Here is a short video to show what it is doing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F7383bI4gw

I have sent your thread and video over to jared, pm me your contact info so Jared can give you a call. Just spoke with the office, they are open and answering the phones, the message was worded a little off, the purpose was to let people know that we are taking a high volume of calls, Thanks Diann

Ok, so after chatting with Jared we determined that my EBC is indeed defective, or possibly one of the wire harnesses. The button on the face has quit responding all together. My fuel controller is reading 6lbs of boost at idle, and I can't get into the adjustment on the EBC. Jared thinks there must be a major problem with the EBC, because there should be no way it can show a boost level that high at idle. This would explain why it's loading up so bad at idle:) Wierd thing is that it has progressively gotten worse, it was working fine the first day, but that next morning it was a mess, the menu system was very glitchy, and hard to navigate, then eventually it quit all together. The good news is that Boondockers is going to overnight me a new EBC . . . . I sure hope that fixes the problem, man I just want to ride this thing!

Good news . . I finally received my replacement EBC and wow what a difference, took me 20 seconds to calibrate it:) makes a huge difference when it's not broken:rolleyes:

Mciver it sounds like your problem is somewhere with boost monitoring, the boondocker does not modify fuel settings until the sled is on boost, therefore if you are experiencing a rich idle the BD box is thinking there is boost when actually not. That is exactly what was wrong with mine, at idle the BD box was showing 6lbs of boost, so it was dumping fuel to compensate. My EBC was completely screwed up which was causing the false readings.

I plan on heading out saturday to try it again and see how she runs now:beer;:beer;:beer;

I tried to edit my post and some how deleted it instead, but anyways I don't think this is my problem. I can calibrate my ebc very quick and easy. I have my ebc number at 42 which is giving me a -0.7 up to 0.0 on the control box, never any higher while I've been watching. also just to make sure it was working I ran the ebc numbers up and down alot and watched the box.

My friend and local cat dealer had an 09 pgt m8 with the 09 kit and he had the same issue with his and one customers. had to pull alot of fuel out to clean them up off boost. they ran their sleds all last year with no problems after tuning.

I've got the bd turbo pipe and I've wrapped it now, so that should help out a bunch. going riding tomorrow and will post my new numbers, I might be way wrong but I'll find out when ride next time.

your calibration number should be 46-49 to zero out your BD Box having a number that low suggests something is wrong. The EBC's are shipped with the cal number 47 (at least for 2010 M8's). . according to jared you should not need to adjust it more than one or two numbers either way to acheive zero. Mine zeroed out on 48. I was also told that the fuel numbers should not need to be changed much from zero . . . if you are needing to go over say 10 in either direction that also suggests a possible problem with the system. Keep in mind that this is just what I was told. If I were you I would contact jared before riding your sled, it's not worth messing up your sled if you have a defective part

mine came set at 43 and I went down to 42. mine is an 09 so maybe they are different ?
jared was suppose to call me but hasn't yet, suppose I should give him a call.

Ok, took her out yesterday to try out the new EBC . . . what a difference! I ended up setting all the fuel numbers back to zero and it ran awesome. EGT's never went too high, pulls like a mule, and seems happy:) The only issue I am having now is it is loading up some at idle, which is really killing the throttle response. It cleans out right away when I hit the throttle, but there is quite a blubber at first. I guess I should tune the 3000 LO to a negative number until it clears up? It seems that idle is the only time it is running too rich

That's what I had to do. Cleaned it right up.

How far into negative did you end up going on yours? I had mine clear down to -15. seemed to work ok there, but after hauling sled home and tried to back out of trailer it wouldn't idle till I bumped it back up to -5 . . . . not sure what is the best way to tweak this thing to get it perfect
