Well, I've let it go for probably a little longer than I should have hoping some more ideas would be posted but looks like everyone has posted that will.

Below are the places most mentioned and a couple only mentioned once or twice but had what we're looking for by way of lodging. Please post your vote and I'll tally them at the end of next week.

Also for those of you that tracked down donations for the raffle last year could you please talk to your contacts again and see what they can offer, and get their logo's to me so I can get to work on the T-Shirts? Along with that if anyone would like to run the raffle end of things that would be great as I'm not 100% sure as to how the best way to do it is.

And the nominees are.......

SLO - We had it there last year and it was a great time, had everything we could ask for as far as accommodations minus camping.

Grand Mesa - I think the riding has been proven to be what we're looking for the only question remaining was some issues with the lodging end of things but this looks promising http://www.coloradodirectory.com/grandmesalodge2/

Lake City - also looks Promising Lot's of lodging options with numerous levels of accommodations including camping. http://www.lakecity.com/lodgesmotelscabins.html

This one in particular looks like it's got just about everything we could ask for including sled rentals. But does not appear to have a bar/restaurant but we could do a pot luck and BYOB.

Irwin - Could ride Irwin and numerous other places and use Almont as a base camp or other lodging close http://www.almontresort.com/

Irwin? The only thing that sucks more than our snow is our lodging.

;-)

Lots of good places to stay in CB, Almont and Gunnison.

It might be fun to rent a bunch of cabins in Almont and make the restaurant/bar home base for the weekend.
http://www.almontresort.com/

That place is kind of central to Irwin, Taylor, Black Mesa, etc..
Has good parking, gas and a general store, surprisingly good steaks!
Gunny and CB are 15min away. (WalMart, Poo/Yami/Cat/NAPA shops)

Also throw out any write ins you'd like but PLEASE INCLUDE INFO FOR LODGING AND THE OTHER ESSENTIALS.

Once the location is nailed down I will talk to whatever the lodging options are in that area and try to get a deal worked out.

Also please start getting a head count for those that will be with each of you so we can take a number to the lodging people.

Sorry MtnDoo, I deleted the other thread to add the poll

New to the area...

Hey guys just saw this link and would like to join you on the ride. I am somewhat new to the area. I lived here back in 03. I was into motorcross and such. I am now getting into Sledding. Currently looking for a good deal on a sled. When is the ride? I don't think I saw it above if it is there I am sorry. Also how long is the ride? Over the weekend? A whole week? Currently I live in Berthoud (below Loveland) I will be looking for people to go sledding with every other weekend. So if you want a good stable sledding buddy hit me up. I will be there. I have a couple of ATV's as well. So if your into that let's go.
Here is my number and email... arfrce@yahoo.com Also out of state number have not changed it over yet. 479-426-4145 thanks Jeff

I might even be able to volunteer to help out if you need some help. But I need to know the day(s) so I can get off and such. Thanks Jeff

Just thinkin out loud I could ask Felker if they would put up something to raffle off or something for a door prize?

hey Arfrce:

The forum ride is over a weekend. Many show up a day early and hit the "area" to scope the riding terrain but, all is up to the individual.

I'm in Longmont and so are quite a few guys on here. Send me a pm or email: Quinton.Reiff@gmail.com and we can hook up for a :beer; and tell lies. ;)

If you are looking for a sled check out sled forums here on Snowest, Craigslist and the Denver SnoShow is the first weekend of October @ the Merchandise Mart eastside of I-25 and 58th Ave in Denver. Some great deals to be had outside at the swap meet.

Cheers and welcome!

Quinton

Well, last year we did the ride on President's day weekend as the extra day off helps a lot. That seems to be the direction it's leaning this year but i think We'll have to put it to a vote again as it is also Valentine's day weekend and many would prefer to do it another time. I'm thinking once we hammer out a place and a source of lodging I will see what dates are available for our needs and use that as a basis for a vote.

Hmm sounds great. Too me.

I know someone traded in a Ski Doo 1000 to tri-City they called me about my quad. Might as well go look at it. Should give me a few ideas about what there is to be had. Thanks for the welcome.
I am off work on Friday's and saturday's. Work out at IBM in Boulder. Swings it's not too bad.

That would be great to get together I have a few questions that I have not found on the forum yet. But still looking.
Anyway if you get some free time let me know. arfrce@yahoo.com. Or 479-426-4145 thanks Jeff

I think you said you are just getting into sledding.....the 1000 would not be high on my list. Although they can be made to run well, many people have had lots of issues. Plus they are just plain heavy compared to a newer, well set up 800 of any brand. Just my 2 cents that may help out.

I'd like to try Irwin this year. I'll be getting plenty of SLO and RE/Buff this upcoming season. I prefer Presidents Day Weekend because of the Holiday.

Don't do a RT 1000. You can find plenty of 08 or 09 XPs for a sweet deal. Some dealers are selling the 09s for 5500-6000 for the Everest Edition. You get a better price, lighter sled and a warranty. Just my 2 cents.

Irwin/Crested Butte/Taylor Park/Black Mesa

Well, I know voting is pretty early/off-season on this, but if you guys decide to come down this way, Snotrackers (Clint, Greg, Phil, Me, etc) will be glad to help with arrangements and will go the extra mile to roll out the red (err...white!) carpet for ya.

I can try to see what a deal the Almont Resort would offer if we brought a group in.

That would be a great help. It always seems to help when someone local is dealing with resorts on things like this. Makes the communication lines a little clearer.

I am going to say Irwin it is a area that is actually worth driving to and has all types of riding.

About 400"+ deep would be nice with about 2' fresh all 3 days would be nice.

Well, last season we had about 600" of snowfall.

The year before that, one of the long-time locals just above the townsite measured 84' (yes..feet!) of snowfall.

Global warming my Arse! ...try global storming.

;-)

MD.
