2010 Dear Yamaha

While I won't retype anyone's previous thoughts.....I noticed on their website nothing mentioned of the Apex in the RTX model......wonder if they are holding out on something down the road?? Why wouldn't they continue the Apex in the rough trail segment?

They got rid of the Apex MTX in Canada as well, appears that they are phasing it out. Same thing happened with the Viper.

Crappy. Glad I bought a new AC M8. I was worried for a while that they might make something crazy right from the factory, but I feel better all the way. Really wish that Yamaha would spend some time looking at these forums, taking a good hard look at what Real MTN riders want from their sleds, then go from there. I like Yamaha because they make one h*ll of a product as far as build quality and reliability goes, but then again it sucks that you need to put a 4G turbo on them to make them go where other stock factory sleds go. Oh well, maybe next year.....AGAIN.

You think they don't listen to what REAL mountain riders want? They put a longer track on their best mountain sled, and made it a whole bunch lighter (21 lbs), while making it handle and ride better. They also made it claw through the snow better thanks to a lower approach angle and changed the track (while it is still called a maverick they changed the durometer and a bit of the lug profile, and made it a single-ply. It is directly in line with the mountain sleds from the other manufacturers. I would take this without question over the Polaris 800's with engine issues (600 & 700 are still their best engines) and the XP with all its durability issues. My brother rides an 08 Nytro with Nitrous, floats and a 162 and without the gas it stays fairly close to my M1. If you think the Yamaha's can't go where the other stock sleds go you should upgrade your riding skills or take up knitting.

Yes they lightened it up 21 lbs but timber sled rear lights it up 38lbs and another 9 lbs off with the front end kit thats 47lbs lighter now i know how to make a sled 47lbs lighter they only did 21. yes the tunnel is better but for the price i will still buy a hold over mod it and have money left to ride. I pray there is a new apex replacement on the way. But i can't wait another 20 months to ride it so i will buy a holdover and do the mods to it. I agree Yamaha is alway top in reliability and extensive r&d but at 177hp the cat is way up and the doo are both getting market share. So if people change brands it is usually 3 to 5 years before they buy again. So Yamaha is letting people change brands and maybe they will come back maybe they won't. I will say i switched from AC this year to go with Yamaha, because they make a quality product and I have a great local dealer. I wouldn't pee on the local doo dealer if he was on fire to help put him out. And last year wow the nytro xtx mmmmmm ya take of the mountain strap put smaller track and trails skis on a sled wow that was an impressive engineering feet NOT. Is AC gonna get get a second look now u bet.

Your 1000 is in serious need of attention, otherwise its apparent whose riding skills need upgrading. Good god man, a 600 lb 130 HP sled keeping up to a 580 ish lb 160 HP sled, and you think its cause of the track and tunnel mods on the Yammi. LOL. The Nytro's a great sled like I said, so's the 600 RMK, and they'll perform about the same in the deep, how could they not. Apples to Apples.

I think I will make my 08 look like a 2010, I have a spare AC float skid to put in, mod the tunnel to look like the new one (easy, cheap mod) paint the suspension arms and windshield blue and mine already has the turbo and 162 track. Maybe add the Floats to front . To think I wanted the same to sell it as a new one will be next year, what was I thinking. Even the graphics aren't much different than the 08.

piss n moan

dont mean to upset anyone but get over it. the worlds in the toilet I wouldnt play all my cards at once either. besides if any of the other manufacturers droped 20 lbs came with an improved track and better geometry it would be touted as the sled to beat for next year. The timber suspension is lighter still but I am positive allan is happy they didnt make the stock suspension as light as his. Come to think of it there isnt a stock suspension as light as his.

all in all I was surprised they made the changes they did. the bigest thing for those of us who prefer the apex is they didnt change anyhting to make me think i need a new one and I can keep the one I have and run it another year because its a yamaha. YES!!

Who cares how much lighter a Timbersled front end is when it isn't as durable as the stock Yamaha front end. Heim joints don't make for reliable ball joints.

the reason there is no apex is because they have a replacement but did not release it do to economic probs.i like the new nytro has everything i asked for except a little more power, but the price oocchh:eek:

You must have had a Nytro outclimb you at some point and are still pouting about it. You're on these forums *****ing about how ****ty the Nytro's are and how they aren't a mountain sled, but claim you've ridden them and ridden with them and they don't keep up with stock sleds. Granted, my brother's Nytro has an aftermarket muffler on it as well, and I didn't say it performs the same as my M1, I said it stays fairly close. I can still lose the Nytro if I want, but it keeps up fairly good. Get your head back down to earth.

Where did you here this? And if its true by the time the economy comes back it will most likely be out dated.

Nice backpedalling. LOL.

Ditto! I don't know who the he!! Slick is but he seems to be a real authority. Probably rides a Pantera. With the way the EPA is tightening up I don't see how there will be any 2-smokes in a few more years...ah who the hell cares, I have fun on my four stroke and that's all that matters....carry on!

"It occurred to me, just like you, I am also disappointed (have been for a long time). You see, I am also a die-hard Apex rider and I also want a new sled. The only difference is, I learned some time ago, we would not be releasing it this year (not to say we won’t eventually)"

So the sled does exist. We'll call it the "EasterBunny-SantaClause-ToothFairy SE 162"

I rode with an all stock 09 nytro regularly on my bone stock 09 154 xp 800 and that nytro just will NOT touch where my XP goes. I love 4 strokes, dont get me wrong, and was curious as to what yammy would pop out this year to compete with the other stockers. looks like not enough this year, although some good additions to an already well rounded sled. but the PRICE! ouch!

I have a couple of different friends that own Yammy dealerships. Both were told by thier reps that something really new and exciting was going to be introduced and this was the release they should not miss. I havent spoke to the other dealer yet but one told me that he is possitive they had something else to release but they didnt. He said that Yammy tries to keep the dealers current invotories at a value where they can still make money and also take alot of pride in thier sleds having the highest resale value, By coming out with a new model in a bad economic year they would kill the dealerships with left over inventories and by producing less of the upcoming year models and selling them at a higher rate it makes the older inventory more appealing to customers to clear it out. if the current inventories clear out fast, then a mid year launch could happen.

Makes absolute since to me. The dealer has a 08 Nytro MTX sitting on the floor for $7600 OTD. With the new ones pricing, I think that 08 Nytro isnt going to last long now! It may be in my garage.......

F.F.S. fellas. I never said it was a _--tty sled ,ever. I said I was disapointed they didn't come with lighter and more HP. And no I don't see myself as an authority, but apparently a hell of a lot more experienced than someone who would argue that theres no difference in performance between a Nytro and the 800 mountain 2 Strokes. Again, GREAT SLED, too heavy, short HP, compared to the deep snow options available. If the Nytro stock floats your boat, terrific, your expectations are different than mine. Fair enough ? If your satisfied with that level of performance, terrific, not me, fair enough ? My opinion, Yammi's are head and shoulders the best quality, but a hell of a long way from the best mountain sled. (stock). Now if that statement or opinion bothers you, tough, its the facts. You're more than welcome to state your incorrect opinion whenever you want, just wipe your lips first, theres a tiny bit of bull$hit still stuck in your stash.

Stock, maybe....but swap the skid and track and you've got a whole different animal. This is what will make the '10 models, especially the SE, so exciting, because of the longer track (and hopefully better version of the Maverick POS), lighter and tunable skid (similar to Timbersled), I think out of the box this sled WILL surprise people. Not to mention the lower approach angle...Maybe I'll have to eat my words, but I think the 162 SE stock will be a very very good all around mountain machine. Is it gonna highmark the 800's? Probably not, but it won't be far below.
