2010 cat 800 completely puzzled someone please help.

Check all the boggie wheels for a bad bearing, start with the rear axle. At least rule them out. Its also pretty easy to pull the side of the diamond drive off and isolate the track by removing the gears. Which would also give you the chance to check inside that.

Good thread, keep us posted on the out come. DDs are easy to swap, have your dealer try a different one. You shouldn't have to deal with AC thats your dealers job, bunch of BS IMO.

I also have a 2010 crossfire 800 sno pro with the powerclaw and it does the same exact thing at about the same rpm and is way worse in the deep snow especially crusty or heavy snow....have already replaced 2 broken primary springs so they gave me a new primary clutch...installed the 5203 double roller bearing in dd and everything looked good with no prior damage and i cant figure anything else out....ran good for the first 200 miles now at almost 400 and at a loss would appreciate any findings....and if your sled ever starts cutting out and dying check the orange wire coming out of the servo motor for the power valves mine rubbed through and was grounding out...thanks alot

Good thread. I noticed my M1000 seemed to have a little more than normal vibration while climbing yesterday. DD oil changed at 150 miles at the start of the season, about 400 miles on it now. Under warranty..... for another month or less so I better get it checked out. What bothers me is that if they don't find anything wrong, I will have to pay for the checkup.

ive got 2010 m8 hcr vibrates more than normal worse in deep powder. also rear suspension sits about 2-3 inches lower than similar sleds. pumped rear float up to 150 lbs and loosened up front shock a bit pulled limiter strap up one hole better but still getting my but kicked

my 2010 hcr is vibrating also...cant find anything so far! Also, does anyone else's 2010 seem like the clutch engages to fast??? when mine engages it sounds and feels like the drivers hit like a hammer under me!!!

mine engaged fast and hard. went to slp blue-pink prim. spring 68 mtx weights empty and .030 shim behind spider. still engages fast but not so hard

I have an 09 crossfire 800 with a 141" powerclaw and dont really have that problem. Every once in a while, not even every ride, i will just be driving along in some deep snow and get some extra vibration but i think it is just ice buildup. Ive got a new problem though. I just changed out my original belt that had 1100 miles on it, and could not pull over 7500 rpms. I always pulled 8100 easily until my original belt started to wear down and i could only pull about 7800. Its a brand new belt and i broke it in and still only 7500 rpms? My track is really really loose and i need to get it tightened up, but that fricken bdx 2 wheel kit makes it a pita to do, could this be my problem? Sorry to highjack. Btw this was at about 6000' 09 crossfire 800 141 powerclaw, slp pipe setup, shift assist, speedwerx H5 alloy springs w/ stock rates, stock helix, bdx rock rollers. The springs appear to be unbroken, helix looks good, rollers look good and move freely. The track is kinda hard to spin by hand. After i swapped the old belt the new one would squeal at idle and engagement. Engagement also got a bit more harsh with a little grinding. I got about 3 miles and was wondering what the deal was and realized the belt was on backwards and switched it, but would that really matter?

I've noticed some vibrations also. My 2010 M8 has about 400 miles on it. I felt it all through the sled and floor boards. We looked it over really hard on the hill and found nothing. I then went and rode it hard hoping it would reveal itself and it went away. It occasionally comes back but then goes away again. I've also noticed that my track edges are fraying. The clearance on both sides is super tight up where the rear skid frame bots in at the back. I checked my tension and alignment and they seem good. I'm wondering if the vibration is coming from the track rubbing on one side or the other then centering back up after a couple good pulls on the hill. I'm considering spreading the tunnel a bit and using a washer as a shim to get a tad more clearance up there. Anyone else notice this?

Hey Destroyer, have you been popping any belts?

I would be looking for the Dealer to check crank run out. Quite the impact when a belt goes. I have seen them take out crank seems, oil lines... even had a friend snap the crank to clutch stub. I dont think you are at this stage, but something to have checked.

Is it a constant issue? like always hear it in the same conditions or just every now and then?

Cant believe your dealer is leaving you high and dry on this one.

Xfire800,

I just popped a my original belt on my 09 xfire with 1200 miles the other day. Running a full SLP as well. I was running 8100rpm most of the time, but over revved close to 8300 and think i blew the belt up and over the primary... granaded the belt. I now too only see 7800-7900 rpm. Tried running the deflection tight and then loose, then about where it should be with the same results everywhere (after if ran a good 50 miles on it softly). I think it may be a tight belt to sheave clearance. I have noticed mine is supper tight and have grooves on both sides of my primary... something too look at.

Not entirely sure if that could even be the issue. The more i think about it the less it makes sense. Maybe I will check out the motor mounts tonight to see if it has pulled out of the frame rail.

Destroyer (again), that could be something else to look at... Motor mount. My buddys 09 just broke on last week. Thinking of motor mount issues and grinding noised, when cat first came out with the Kevlar belts, I used to get a nasty little squeel grind noise, but only on engagement. It turned out to be supper hard belt slipping in the primary because the belt to sheeve clearance was huge. Maybe with that new primary, the spider shims are setup different and your Belt to sheave is huge? I would look at it. This seemed to be the demise of a motor mount on my 05 F7

Ill check that out. Im taking it in to get some stuff done soon so im going to have them throw the stock springs back in and look over everything to make sure its all good. I took it for a spin today at home 1500' with 75 gram weights which are 3-6000' and pulled a max of 8170, but when i looked at my gauge it looked like it hit 7900 quickly then dropped off to 7800, but it was really hard to see because this was on hardpack in the ditch and the sled just wanted to flip over backwards. It seemed like the power was there like normal though. Anyone know if a really loose track will mess with your rpms?

Stock or not

Are you running stock power claw track? Have you made any changes to the sled from stock set up? I have my first new Cat ever and this issue catches my attention but I'm curious about your set-up because I was involved in a similar situation and found out later that the guy with the problem had done a bunch of things to the sled and failed to mention it. E.G. the track was not stock and many changes had been made to the suspension set-up and eventually the cause was deemed to be from poor set-up and installation of an aftermarket track by the owner.

The stock track was a 1.5 cobra. The 2.25 pclaw was put on by the dealer. After break in I did adjust the tention and alignment properly. everything else is stock. The clutching and gearing was awesome from stock. i didn't have to touch a thing. This sled ran absolutly amazing for the first 460 miles. I've done alot of clutching and gearing experiments with my doos in the past. This thing rocked. I wouldn't have touched a thing if I had the choice. maybe lower the engagement a bit but i got used to it.

I have a 2010 M8 SP 162 with just under 300 miles. Today after doing some climbing in the deep powder I noticed a similar vibration. At first I thought it was the belt too but checked it and it looked fine. If I am running it slow there is no vibration. Once I get on the throttle I feel the vibration. Put the sled on its side and looked for track issues but could not find anything. Will look it over this week and see if I can find anything. Please keep us posted if you find the problem.

Ok, we have drifted all over with this thread.... how about the brake side, like a warped brake disc? Might explain the binding when rotating the track if all bearings are indeed good.

what i have found on my crossfire is that my track also hits a hard spot when turning it by hand it is only one spot and the same spot every track revolution so in my mind that can rule out drive train because it is the same spot on the track and the drivers go around multiple times...i have been blowing belts i am at 460 mi and blown 4 belts already...i did notice today before i dropped it off at cat that there are some track clips missing but couldnt tell if that was causing it to hang up
