2010-2011 Whistler/Pemberton Conditions

God, don't even try Rutherford!!! Just the trail needs a few feet to cover the log bridges and holes enough for a sled to pass.
There is no snow in Whistler. The snow line starts at 1500m ...maybe... and there is only about 70 cm at 1800cm according to a friend who is a cat driver for the mountain. My living room window faces Spoatt I can tell you it is pretty much bare except for the very very top. It is going to be AT LEAST 2 -3 weeks away at this rate. No real snow in the forecast for the next 7 days. Y'all are gonna have to wait.
Unfortunately you were watching sleds go buy on groomed trails where they have been blowing snow. They have 170 guns going off right now on Whistler alone trying to get the hill ready for the 19th. My buddy who drives cat up there told me there is not enough snow to make it down harmony or pretty much anything off piste. The other side of the valley is even worse.
With all that being said my neighbor just got back from the Whistler chamber seasonal meeting and the talk about La nina was huge. Word has it the ocean temperatures from Russia and Asia are 2 degrees colder than any other temps in recorded history which is why they figure this is going to be a monster snow year for Central Western North America. The snow will come...we might just have to wait a bit for it. Keep burning the skis and boards for Ullr!

Thanks for the first hand report. I guess I won't be sledding on remembrance day after all. Oh well, I guess we all just have to be patient.
brohm ridge ridable at all?
My guess is it's not worth going up to brohm just yet. The same time last year i unloaded way lower than that.

Does anyone have any gps co-ordinates for the ice caves on the pemberton ice field... i have always wanted to check out a cave!

Me and a buddy were at brandywine on remembrance day we camped up at the second parking lot and there was NO SNOW there but the so line was close. So much for la ninya season so far.
Well I am happy to finally report that....... (drumroll)......it is absolutely puking snow in the valley in whistler right now. We have about 6 inches of accumulations at 10am. It had rained all night and finally turned to snow at about 5am. There was heavy amount of snow up in the higher elevations (25cm @ 1550m pigalley) and it is forecasted to keep snowing for another few days. Time to replace the batteries in your beacons, do your thumb calisthenics and wash the old beef stew out of your muffpot boys. I think this is game on!!!!

Just flew into Vancouver from Terrace. Went right over top of pem ice cap, Brandywine and Brohm. Lots of snow up high but getting there will still be the trick. 3" inches at the bottom is not enough to save your A-arms unless you don't go off the track.
