2009 Polaris lineup NO BS

So nothing major from Polaris this year. Just emptying their part bins. Gonna be a rough year for Polaris. The 146 RMK sounds nice though. If they are getting those track lengths then they must be using different pitch setups in the RMK lineup.

Tough year?
Yea, why would they want to continue to put out a great sled?
They should maybe change to a more risky lineup?

Why no 4-stroke?????????

Seems like a no brainer with the FTS motor just make it a bit bigger drop the weight to match the Nytro and it would be a mean stock sled.

I'm sure it's not as easy as I am saing but I think it would be worth there time to build it.

Are the Switchbacks still 136? Is your only option for the 144-146 size to get a 600 or 800?

Are all the 600s CFI?

RMK 800 144" comes with the 800 CFI????

Switchback track lenghts?

What track comes on the Assault?

I asked a rep a while back why they didn't offer the FST in a RMK package. He stated they had problems with weight and cooling. If they dropped the weight they couldn't get enough cooling to keep the turbo from overheating.

I have been asking for the FST RMK package for a couple years now.

I would think the carb option is gone. I was told that Po was using up what was left of the carbs on the 600 Shift and 600 RMK 144 this year.

Why do we always morn the loss of certain sleds that are not selling well, instead of embracing some of the cool new stuff, like the Assualt and D8 short track?
Poo had the only 700 class sled 2 stroke, and with the 800, they probably were not expecting big sales numbers for the 700. Same with the FST RMK...seriously, they might sell 100 of those (and despite what you think, it would be a pig and would have gotten bad reviews fromthe press, thus poor sales).
Polaris needs to make money or get out of the sled business, and as such needs to produce sleds that the bulk of the market want, which is proving to be 600's and 800's. Having a sled for every single little market is extremely costly. The only reason that the 700 existed was to retain some market share while the 800 came to be. The Assualt addresses a new niche market and should sell well and might even sway some people from doing IQR conversions...Kudos to Polaris!
Time will tell, but I think they made some good changes and will remain competive with this line-up. Might even win a few more customers.

Agreed

I agree, everybody seems to get pissy as soon as they don't see the exact sled they wan't. I think a few more people need to take some business classes to see why polaris even makes a snowmobile. That Assault looks bad *** - will be perfect for jumping and hillclimb racing. 4-strokes weigh too much and the iqr is a SNOCROSS sled - live with it.

The mountain segment should be like the flatland segment. Pick your chassis, pick your engine. They don't offer a crossover that's worth a damn anymore for serious off-trail duty, and they are limiting the use of a coveted engine size for those of us in the Midwest to only 136 and 155 (my D7 has more power on my home turf than an RT1000 or M1000 at altitude). The Midwest is the heart of the crossover market. My dad has been waiting for a 700CFI 144 for 3 years now... Actually, I know several guys waiting for this sled...

Good post and I agree. The problem out West is huge lack of power and no way to fix it without destroying the realiability and staying away from race fuel. I know they can't build a 1000cc moter that works well, they proved it with the 9.

I really don't want to go with a cat but what choice do we have? All I want is a 500lb, 190+hp, floats on all 4's, pull and go, pump gas, metal bumper Polaris that doese'nt cost $16000. Good thing I have 4 kids who ride so I can still stick with poo for them, it is the BEST all mountain sled. But for me???

that assault sounds like a fun sled. needs a longer track though... speaking of that why do they build a 144 and a 146 sled in the same year? wouldnt it be cheaper to go one way or the other?

The assault is for the Sledneck crowd that typically drops Big cliffs, takes cornice shots, Flips, downhill pow carving etc... Like Kyle, Borchers, Burandt, Sherman etc... most have been on the Doo 144/146's (yes I know Burandt is AC) for a while and Polaris has not offered a sled for this segment in the past...Power and a shorter track.
Freeride = lots of crazy stunts....Watch any Slednecks movie and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The 144 is a series 4 with 2" lugs and 2.52" pitch.

The 146 is an all new track with what I believe is is a 2.125 lug height, 2.86" pitch and the newer 5.1 lug pattern in a higher durometer rubber.

From What I know abuout the FST motor built by webber, it is not a great boondocking engine, fairly heavy, and an oiling system that does not like to be upside down or at extreme angles for a long time... The Nytro is That sled... how is yours working out Justin?

I doubt with the EPA regs and the desire to standardize tooling that Poo will be offering anything but CFI's besides the 600 which is currently tooled up and is easier to meet EPA regs with.

I think that this lineup will rock, they have refined what they have and it is definately a top notch offering with some of the best handling on the mountiain.

Everyone has their style of riding and brand preferences...a sled that "fits" one rider may not "fit" another. I think that all of the factories will be putting out stellar sleds right out of the box this year. XP bugs worked out, M series dialed in just right, RMK's fine tuned before the "next new thing" comes out to keep sleds rolling out of Rosseau. Yamaha seems to have the best 4 stroke offering bar none, The others are going to have to step up sooner or later.
