Saturday

Who is planning on riding Boulder Saturday? We have rode there before but it would be nice to maybe link up with a few guys who know the area better than we do especially if its socked in. Our group of three will be in Revy Friday night ready to rock.

Just wondering at what elevation this happened? There is a rain crust down at lower elevation, and it could be the trigger of this slide. Stay up high everyone till everything bonds. Glad you are alive and able to share with us. THANK YOU

Thanks for the post Ratchet, I am glad to hear that everyone made it out and my hat is off to your friends for being able to act with such clarity of mind in a panic situation.

After reading that post I just signed up for my avi course with HangFire in Golden.

Did you say that the avi backpack did not deploy? Does anyone know if this is a frequent issue with them, because I don't feel like spending a thousand bucks on avi gear that may or may not work! Does anyone have feed back on these packs?

CAC Travel Advisory

Travel Advisory

Watch for soft slabs forming in open treeline and alpine terrain, especially on exposed N-E facing slopes where recent winds have formed deep and weak pillows of snow. Avoid complex terrain like steep chutes, large convex rolls, and unsupported slopes where triggering an avalanche is more likely. To reduce your exposure, ride slopes one at a time and spot from safe locations well clear of avalanche runouts. It’s a good idea to stick to lower angle slopes (<30 degrees) until the recent storm snow has a chance to settle and strengthen.
Make sure that everyone in your group is carrying essential safety gear and knows how to use it; however, being well equipped is not enough. Be diligent about planning your trip and choose terrain that is suitable for the conditions

Snowpack

Snowpack

Snowpack depths are steadily increasing with areas in the Purcells reporting around 150cm at treeline, and many areas reporting around 200cm further to the west. Close to a meter of snow has fallen in many areas in the past week. This could be enough snow to trigger a natural avalanche cycle or greatly increase the potential for human triggered avalanches. The storm snow could be enough to overload a crust/facet layer that has been reported in some parts of the Purcells. We have limited information for this region so it’s difficult to provide specific information about the distribution, seriousness, and persistence of the crust/facet layer in the Purcells. Further to the west in the Selkirks and Monashees the primary snowpack concerns are storm snow instabilities and locally deep pockets of wind slab.

Thanks AA, good post. Last night in the groomer we saw areas that had slid along the trail below the cabin on their own . Steep treed and open areas.

At Boulder parking is still at 4 km on the Kirkup. The rd. has been plowed, I wouldn`t go any further with big trailers, there is nowhere to turn around. Your riding 1 km of dirt and another km of skinny then it`s all good. Herb has got the trail looking like the #1 in places:D. He was able to get across the rock face above the cabin last night so it is groomed now to the top of AB Hill now. Really hope we get some more snow down low this wk. Looks like it`s tough riding, we sure saw some deep trenches. :D Chit we were even trenching in the groomer trying to get up some hills in the alpine, she was working hard last night, couldn`t even see the tracks. Close to 7 ft. now at the cain.

This comming wknd. is going to busy. There is still logs and rock being hauled off the mtn. 7 days a wk. at Boulder
We are holding traffic back and sending you all up in groups to avoid any problems. A little patience would be great.

Travel safe everyone who is comming this way for the wknd. See you all Sat. night 7:30 at the Riverside Pub @ the Regent Inn for the Boost 4 and Thunderstruck 8 showing. Bring items for the Revy Food Bank, your donations enter you to win draw prizes.

dont use His name in a curse..but use it in a blessing! you say "Jesus Save Me..Jesus Protect Me"! this is not a belief..but a revelation from God himself! besides..when your plan 'A' at survival is failing..what then?? you have nothing to lose..but all to gain with just those few words!:)
