2008 Polaris Dragon RMK 800 Ride Report

I had the opportunity to ride the new RMK 800 Dragon (155) in Golden yesterday (Quartz) and have to say that I am thoroughly impressed, so much so that I have changed my mind about getting an XP. The XP that I rode for comparison pulled harder up the chute I tested both machines on (XP was broken in and almost dialed, Polaris had 20kms on it), overall however I would take the RMK 800 anyday over the REV XP...

Looks like the Polaris mafia are trying to defend there monoblock pos..... can you say big money to get fixed...

Nice little statement with very little value... ? What is your basis for this bold statement? How is it going to cost big money if it doesn't need fixin? Hmm, no belt issues, strong motor, proven chassis.. Oh yea, lot's of issues! You need to get out from under your doo and change a belt or somethin..
:D

If I remember right there is not enough poo's out there right now to be able to tell if they are going to need fixin or not?

dont pay attention to him. thats like asking a retard why he cant read...

I'm going to be curoius to see if the engine proves to be reliable. The old big block 800 developed a number of problems (crank bearings, motor mounts, power valves) as the miles piled on and the years passed by. Not trying to slam it, just noting what I've observed.

Good for Polaris

Polaris it a home run last year with their 700 dragon and this year the 800 will be a grand slam. I am pumped that Pol has a "Decent" 800 mountain sled. The last few years I have been forced to ride a Doo because they were the only ones who seemed to have a decent mountain sled that was fun to ride. I held off last because the 700 was too small in the CC department and this year I held off cause the 800 was new and the XP is so light. Next year there is a good chance I will behind a set of Polaris handlebars again, that would feel nice. If the 800 Pol ends up being as good as these early reports seem to show it will be a win for everyone and not just the Pol guys. On another note though, I do like my XP very much and will ride a 800 155 in Feb to see for myself before I make any "haste" decisions.

Get the 3 year warranty and try and not screw around with building a better mousetrap and you shouldn't have to spend big bucks.

Mono block or not things aren't that cheap to fix no matter what happens.

Pinnedunderdoo just hates himself, so he makes it his mission in life to try and ruin things for everyone else too.

He does it whenever possible. I would suggest just putting him on your ignore list.:D

they all make decent stuff and an occasional lemon..

I have ridden with an 08 dragon and an 08 cat this year and they are both pretty damn good sleds. Just depends on what you like. I don't particuarly care for the xp as I think it is a bit too tender to survive my weight and the rev is enough "rider forward" for me.

This chassis is an incredible handler...really liking the way my 600 handles everything I throw at it. Only real concern is that it gets a bit tough to handle in the steeps...might need to work on the skid a bit.
As for reliability...the 800s of the past were extremely reliable. The only issue was the crank and not that many of them go in perspective to how many are out there. I'm just glad that there is some good competition out there now...I'd like to ride the XP, is probably alot of fun to throw around...have spent time on the M8, good all-around handler...haven't been on the dragon 800 yet but my shift 600 is a great sled and alot of fun. Happy with the purchase. Good bunch of sleds out there this year.

The dragon I rode with today went well past what I expected...Bone stock, not 2 miles on the odometer and it did not struggle at all today....
Was in 2-3 feet of fresh and it broke trail, carved, boondocked as well as any of us maybe even easier. The thing just floats forever. 3 cats, 2 revs and one other poo...The dragon is under hyped and will over deliver...
