2008 F250 6.4 7.6 MPG when towing?

I like when pickups get 21 MPG when the owner is driving alone, but when somebody is along to document things, the mileage goes down to 14 MPG.

I had a guy tell me this weekend that his Duramax got 28 mpg once. but usually gets 22. I knew the guy and just couldn't believe what he was saying. I'm happy when I get 17-18.

My 06 5.9 averaged 16.8 mpg pulling..

My 19 1/2' bass boat loaded with gear and 200 hp merc on back, trailer is like 1200 lbs (tandem axle with brakes) so like 3500 lbs total, from Spokane Wa to Clear Lake CA, 1700 miles round trip.
I have the 6 speed manual, stock tires, and put in power service about every 2nd fill up.
I keep mine at 60-65 if I go faster it drops quick. Best section both directions was on Highway 97 where the speed limit it 60. Worst was going up the Columbia on 84 which got 15.2 at 70.

My computer is always about 2 mph high but that is really not that bad, considering some are off by 4 or more. If I go above 2000 rpm (67 mph) economy definately suffers. John

Been doing some more hand calculating and checking. Up to 6700 miles now with a trip to Minneapolis this weekend. First tank was about 200 miles on the highway at 75mph the rest was in the city with 3trips downtown to our hotel(what a mess) good weather no wind averaged out at 14.6mpg. On the way home tonneau cover open with something light in the box and horrible winds 11.8mpg.

Planned to take the wifes car to this wedding but got convinced to take the pickup to get some cement tools on the way home for her dad. Found out we were staying down town. Felt safe at least with the buses trying to run me over but went to pull in the parking garage and found out my pickup was about 3"s to tall to fit so had to park about 5 blocks away. Wanted to fill up the one night to but finding a decent place to get diesel downtown proved impossible. I was happy to get on the highway open it up and head home.

Still Love Em!!

To some I might be a newbie to diesels, but I have owned a 7.3 and 6.0 Ford, a 5.9 Cummins 12V, 24V, and common rail, and all of these since 2000. I have modded all of them, and been relatively nice to them as well. I never burned one down, took great care of them, and they worked great. I can say something though, all this talk about "towing at 75-80 with 12,000 lb trailer and getting only 9-10" is crazy!! You absolutely have to have your foot into it to get that fast and stay that fast, so how can you be upset with mileage, because it is pretty obvious it isn't that big of a deal. I am a huge fan of diesels as they allow so much as far as mileage and power and usually they go hand in hand. I currently am running a 2007 5.9 Cummins and if it had a transmission (whole nother topic) and I am very happy with 20 empty at 70 and 10with 12,000 lb stock trailer. As far as the new diesels go, best wishes to all of you, as I am sure I would do the delete and stay on top of maintenance and go with the spartan as it does not show on factory flashes (have a buddy that showed me this) also the guys at spartan really know their stuff. Long story even longer I have a 5.9 cummins for sale!! HAHA kidding, it will get better, until then mod it, leave it, or pay it.
