2008 F250 6.4 7.6 MPG when towing?

I'd like to know what rear end you have? I know mine pulling a 5 place enclosed with it full of sleds and gear plus having at least one on the deck doesn't get nearly that bad, worst case never below 10.

10 mpg on the display or hand calculated. our farm truck with the 6.4 gets 7-8 pulling.

Just got my 08 F250 6.4L crewcab short box a few weeks ago so its only got 2400 miles on so far but I've been getting about 11 at 75-78 empty 13-14 at 65 depending on the wind and stuff. I pulled my 25ft inline enclosed with two sleds the week after I got it and got 11 at 70mph and last week pulled our 3000# car trailer with our skidsteer that ways about 5000#s around to clean slush up and was getting 9. I was only doing about 55 but was on back roads with 6"s of slush and mud and the 4x4 on. Really seems odd that you got that bad with just 2 sleds behind. The one thing I've noticed is with that big front end if your pushing a wind it sure hurts. Like you said though I've been really happy with it otherwise.

I'd sure like to take the emissions off but to afraid of warranty problems. Reminds me of a F250 with a 351 we had one of the first years of the tighter emissions back then. Dad went under the hood and when he was done he had a huge pile of stuff on the ground the pickup ran 100 times better and got significantly better mileage. Seems so funny because on our farm equipment every time we go up a tier the efficiency just gets better although the price tag goes up to.

My 06 5.9 cummins gets at best 18 on the highway at 70 mph (2,000rpm) anything over it starts falling off quick. Pulling a 30 ft gooseneck with 7 sleds 4 guys and 7 peoples gear best was 13mpg leaving alpine WY. Also had 3 tanks at 6mpg. All driving was at 70 mph (2,000rpm)

X2^^^^^ 2000rpm is the key. I have an 08 GMC 3500. I tow my 3 place Charmac w/ 3 sleds at about 65-70 and I get about 11.5mpg. Around town I get about 11.5-13.0 and unloaded on the freeway I get 17.0-18.0mpg. Now that being said I only go through a regen every 450-500 miles dropping those numbers. I will loose almost 2 mpg during the regen process.. If you have a tuner that emits more soot, your truck will regen more often making your MPG horrible. I currently have the Diablo Predator tuner set on the Economy mode. I set my Speedo with a GPS. I have 35" Toyo M/T's with a 6" lift. I think that your dealer can tell you how often your truck is going into the regen process. I leave my MPG on the dash and I can see it start to drop like a rock when it kicks on.

1600 mile round trip to Canuck and back with my 08 F350 pulling a 27' enclosed with five sleds, four guys, one barrel of race gas, and all our gear, we managed to pull off around 9.5 average. Most driving was 75ish.

Unladen this winter I have averaged 13.

This truck has a CAI, Dpf Delete, and a programmer.

08 F-350 with spartan dpf delete 1500 mile trip at 80mph pulling my 40' enclosed with 7 sleds, 60 gal gas, tools and gear averaged 9mpg for the trip.

It sure is a bummer the 2007+ emissions standards killed the mileage on the diesels. It makes it hard to pencil out running the diesel. And just wait until 2010 when the the next tier hits and many diesels will require running SCR (urea) too. That will be a fun addition to the mix.:(

Really sad that the EPA has forced so many restrictions on the Diesel market. The fact of it is my 05 6.0 did really well with 10.5 to 11mpg towing fuel mileage. I can even remember my 96 Dodge with the 12 valve and a 5 speed manual I would get 12-14mpg when towing. Well the posts that recommend removal of the emission stuff sound logical but I will not compromise my warranty situation and since I live in a County where we have to smog a Diesel it is not worth it.

All this DPF stuff makes me love my old 12v cummins even more, ya a know they smoke, stink, make alot of noise but you have to like 385hp 815t at the wheels. Oh and fuel milage, about 19mpg unloaded, 14mpg with 12,000 lbs

I've had a dodge I know they will get good mileage.

But you cant tell me your going to get 14mpg at or above 75 mph pulling 12,000lbs!

Speed kills MPG in gas or smokers...

After hearing all this it makes me happy that i bought my 04 Ford v-10 it get's a consistant 11.5 mpg wether empty or loaded and the maintenance is a whole lot cheaper .

I call BS on these high mileage #s

Had an 01 Cummins 6 speed, 3.55s, leveling kit with 35s. Got around 19-21 hwy empty at 75. This was with 4" Turbo back, EDGE Juice, 100 hp injectors and AFE air intake.

However, towing a Dodge dart on a open car hauler got around 13.5 MPG and this was going 75 MPH.

Did get a little under 16 MPG towing an old 30s GMC truck, but that was going 60-65 MPH.

These were summer fuel #s.

Now I have an 03 Cummins HO auto with 3.73s, 35s, 3" lift, Smarty JR and air intake. On Saturday, towing a two place open with salt shields plus a sled in the back got me 16.1 MPG on a slow trip (speeds mostly around 45-55 MPH with a few bursts to 70 MPh).

This truck empty gets 18-20 MPG highway at (70-75 MPH). Wind can really drop mileage though.

So, IMO, there is no way you can tow 12k and get 14 MPG. The 01 and 03 trucks get good good mileage and I have been averaging 15-16 MPG towing a two place which is only 2000 lbs.

This being said, I really have no need to upgrade to a newer diesel any time soon. Love my 03. Will keep it till it dies or someone totals it on me!

The emissions stuff sucks! Although, my buddy took the EGR and DPF off his 6.7 and really bumped the mileage up. But for me, I really don't put enough miles on to require a new truck.

Although, to go back to gas would sure be a kick in the nuts. Even an 8.1 or V10 feels like gutless turd after you drive a slightly modded diesel.

snowrdr your MPG's really aren't that bad. When I first got mine I ran a BD box then an edge box. When empty and easy as I could be on the gas I would get 8/9 towing I would get 5/6. I have a 6 inch lift and 37X13.5 tires.

I am now running Spartans stuff and I have more than doubled my MPGs both towing and empty. Plus I am now running around 500HP to the rear tires. It is honestly a NEW TRUCK!!

PM me if you have any questions on the spartan. I have done it 3 times now and it is very easy and WAY worth the money!!!!
