2007/2008 M1000 update clarification

Hilly - Look up two posts. We ran both 07 and 08's last weekend and both ran great.

Vern1 - Way too many parts for me to explain in too much detail. There are a bunch of shields for oil tank, overflow bottle, wires, etc. They take the shield off the pipe closest to the Y pipe, replace the shield on the stock can, cut a hole in the intake above the ECU and put a Frogskin on it and put some heat tape and pads on the hood, make the exhaust outlet like the 09 and of course the reflash. The 07 & 08 kits are different because of the different shields on the original sleds. I took off the oil tank and overflow bottle shield because it makes it hard to get the caps off.

Longball - They want it stock because A. Warranty B. They have to take the shielding off the head pipe and replace the shields and put an outlet on the stock can. I just took my stock can with me.

Hope this helps :D

Paul, if your runs, I wouldn't change it. I wish I never updated mine. My sled ran perfect prior to the last reflash. With you 1200 you will be adjusting no matter what, so why start over with a whole new map?

This is by far the best advice to anyone who has a fuel injected sled regardless of make. Unless you have runnability problems, DO NOT REFLASH. There are too many inconsistencies and variables between sleds that will affect some more than others.

And if you don't like what you get, you may not be able to go back.

Chris 587- thanks for the info, but that dealer told me i needed the stock y-pipe to be on the sled also. He said they needed that for the reflash? I was wondering what the y-pipe has to do with the reflash

Can someone explain in detail what all the parts are? Also the reason for the parts? What each part fixes or helps?

Thanks

Curious about this too. Picked up new 07 Crossfire 1000 and put DD Y pipe, can and BD box before it ever hit snow. After melting everything under the hood on first ride, saw all the heat shielding they did on '09s and thought WTF? They knew this was problem and protected about everything I melted. Replaced all cables and added heat tubing but had to put back to stock as hood kept melting. Planned to take it back to dealer after season to get melted stuff replaced and expected hassle but should be done deal now. Now wondering if I'll get reimbursed and if "everything" will get replaced. Anybody go thru this back when it first came out?

My 07 was running great after the o7 update, really crisp throttle 5-7000 ft, had the 09 flash done last week and had it out yesterday, now have serious bog in midrange? Will be seeing dealer today, should have left it alone!
If I can't get it running like it was I will be choked!

Oh yeah, my sled is stock except for D&D can.

if your sled is running perfect i wouldn't change a thing. Mine had a terrible mid range bog so this was a good improvement for me. Why mess with your sled if its running strong!?
