2005 Summit 1000 vs Summit 800

I am just wondering. I have found a 20005 1000 163" with low miles for about the same cost as a 800 151". If the updates have been done is this a good sled? I am MN and I have run a 151" for the last 3 years around here in the ditches and have had no problems. So thinking it would be ok with a 163 - just need to be carefull like I have with jumping and things like that. But for the same price I can get a bigger motor a longer track instead of an 800. Just wondering for the guys who have these sleds do they like them and how do they compare to an 800. Thanks.

Let me just say that the peeps I know that had a 800 and went to a 1000 have returned to the 800.

Had both and unless your doing alot of trips out West I'd go with the 800. The power is nice but the added weight eats up any gains in HP.

Where the 1k shines is in the steep and deep. I would say where you're at and the type of riding you do, I would probably go with the 800. Like it was said before, the 1k has tons of power but it's quite a bit heavier. From what I've seen and experienced, stock for stock an 800 will generally keep up with a 1k in the steep and deep just fine.

It's a different story if you find a 1k that's been dialed in and has had a little work done to it. But, again it's really a mountain sled and will usually only outperfom an 800 in the steep and deep. Just my .02, take it or leave it. ;)

I usually only get to out west once a year. The only draw is the fact that it only has 900 miles on it and is the same price as 800's that I have seen with more miles. That is what is drawing me. I am just not in a position to have 2 sleds. One for out west and one for here at home. The dealer has an 06 800 151" (not sure of how many miles) for $1000 more. Living in MN I am finding it hard to find a 05 800 151". I just kind of stumbled across this 163".

I like my 1000. Buddy has the 8 and I dont feel the difference in weight unless it is stuck, but we are also ridin the mountains all the time so the weight might be more noticeable in the flats and not as much pow. However mine does have under 700 right now.
