2005 REV Clutch Trouble

Well I finally got around to taking my clutches (primary and seconadary) into the shop to get serviced. Turns out they are in pretty rough shape. 750 bucks for parts and service if I go ahead and get the work done. This is friend pricing as well as I know the guys at the shop fairly well.

So what would you guys do? I am thinking about looking for something used but am worried that they new (used) stuff will have the same problems and worn out parts. Anyone know where I can get new or after market. For 750 dollars I would think I could get something else that would be better than stock.

Looks like I am not riding for a while anyway until I get this figured out.

Anyone have something that might work for me they want to part with?

WTF is wrong??!! $750 seems a tad steep to me, especially if you are getting "friends" pricing.

You are right, for $750 you could get something better than stock, lots better. Are both primary and secondary needing work? Get a TEAM secondary. You can find springs and helixes here in the swap so you can find your sweet spot. The primary is the harder one but I'd bet you that you can find the parts to fix it (Rooster Built, DJ's Clutch kit, etc...) and still have plenty left over to to take a fine looking honey out for a beer, eh.

What's the breakdown? Not really ridiculous if you know what a TRA is worth! If a sheave is worn and needs replacing???
Primary - Spring, rollers, pins, bushings, spring cover, cotter pins. $300(Estimate in Canuck Bucks)
Secondary - Spring, helix, rollers, bushings. $200(Same estimate in Loonies)
Labour shouldn't be $150 if the guy knows what he's doing. Although most shops flat rate a clutch job.

Like Cat, BRP recommends replacing the secondary sheave if the smaller bushing is worn instead of replacing. That might be the culprit, or the primary bushing may have worn so bad that a new bushing might not stay seated properly and they are erroring on the side of caution. Too many variables to tell you to go get another clutch etc etc unless you can tell us what they found wrong....

Don't waste your time with used......there's a reason someone else is selling it.....
