2002 700 troubles

My buddy fired up his wife's sled in his trailer, started backing down in rev and all of a sudden it died half way down the ramp. We pulled it the rest of the way off the ramp onto flat land and tried to start it up again and no go. We continued to try to get it started for what seemed like an eternity and it still didn't start. We are by no means mechanics, but we changed out the spark plugs and still no fire. He told me to take the other sled out for a little cruise while he continued to semi work on it. After a while he said he did finally get her started, and as he attempted to take it on a light half mile cruise she died and he had to be towed back to the trailer. When I got back to the truck, he got her fired up once more, got her back on the trailer and she died instantly. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Moon

It is either fuel or ignition, did you check to see if you had spark when it would not start? I would start there, as there are alot of variables to what the problem might be.

Like I said before, I know nothing about these machines, so I couldn't tell ya if it had spark or not, but right before we got the sled back into the trailer my buddy had the hood open and he was fiddling with something and he told me to pull the string to attempt to start it up again. Sure enough, she fired up, he hoped on it, drove up the road maybe 100 yards, turned it around, and drove her into the tailer. Once in the trailer he didn't even have to shut her down. It just died once he stopped.

The same thing happend to me . You have a broken wire that powers the coil pack. the wire broke in the conector to the cdi box. if you move the wires around it conects and when the motor vibrates it stops again. I gentley pulled on the wires the broken one came right out of the plugin. I hot wired to finished my trip and got a new harness, it was $60

Something else to check --- use a flashlight and look into your tank for the fuel pickup tube. It is connected to a fitting in the front of your tank and with the E-10 corncob fuel that we are using the fuel is making the pickup line deteriorate and break off. If you have a full tank you won't know it --- but as the fuel drops past the pickup you will get stalls and bad performance. Backing off the trailer all the fuel runs to the back of the tank --- away from the pickup fitting and the motor stalls. The sled is old enough that this is a common problem. The fitting is behind the oil tank/airbox on the mag side and can be pulled out (takes a very hard pull) and a new line can be installed. Be sure to make the new line the same length and install the small brass filter/weight on the line end. I hope this helps.
