I do not know the model of this sled, other than it is a 1998 600 triple.
This is the style with the starter motor mounted to the right side, and with a shaft that operates the pinion gear on the left side. The starter motor turns, but does not kick the pinion gear into the flywheel ring gear.
I believe that this system operates on the old Bendix Drive principle, in that quick armature torque throws the pinion gear out, much like the old car/truck days.
What I don't know is where the actual Bendix mechanism is. In other words.... where is the kick-out device located?
Is it inside of the motor housing, or outside?
Before I tear into it or order a new starter motor, I would like to hear some thoughts and opinions, including any good suggestions.
