166 belt replaced by 383

Demo E-Tec 800 in my posession for the weekend, my rep told me to use the 383 that's on it, I'm taking my almost new orange 166 and a 377 for comparison. Temp gun to keep tests equal(belt heat as well as clutch heat) Also have my 2010 Demo and my 06 to test against.

We shall see tmrw if what DJ says is warranted by testing, not just word of mouth.

For myself, the only reason to blow belts are as follows: Poor clutching set-up, engine out of alignment, old belt/bad deflection. And break-in of a new belt is a priority. Wash it first, break her in nicely and then hammer down. To me, that's the only reason to ride trails.......break in the machinery and components that make it work. After that.......it's all mountains, all the time.

Well the weather didn't co-operate with us as we were held to the lower elevations and in the trees, no notable place to line up and run on a consistent basis. So we didn't even swap belts however I can tell you what I noticed in regards to the new E-Tec.

Power is uncanny smooth, not at all like the older Cat motors(pre '10) but smooth. Grab a handful and your already going faster than you thought you would be, super quiet, prolly the thing i liked most. Thought it was a nussance at first, then after riding my 2010 and back again.....I love the sled being so quiet.
Everyone went about 100km's in the day, my speedo showed 140+km's before I ran outta fuel about half a km from the trucks. Like mentioned, everyone else made it about 90-100km's before needing to refuel. Definate tree day, some real good powder, some rotten powder.....lotsa fun. See if we can't properly test(unlike OEM mtn testing) before this thing moves along to another dealership. I'll have a full review when I get some more seat time on the 2011's.
