163 vs 155

Have had both. 163 floats way better in the deep. People say their not as ajile in the trees but I dint see a big difference. Once your used to it no problem. IMO 163 is the way to go.

Why would you buy a 155 when you can get a 163?

Depends on your perspective.
Is the glass half full or half empty.

To me is like choosing between the rmk 600 and the 800 pro. Why settle for less? I just wonder other people's thoughts because a couple buddies of mine love the 155 and its like they're scared to make the jump to a 163. I just don't get it...

I currently have a modded '09 RMK 700 155". If I decide to "check" a 2014 Pro RMK, it'll be a 163. I'll still keep the modded 700 though.

155 is more forgiving in the air if you like to jump or do drops. And the shorter rails are less likely to get messed up on a bad landing. 141 is even better. Just depends on your style.

You're really talking Assault over RMK if jumps and drops are the issue, but for all around riding in "typical" mountain conditions the longer track gives the average rider more options.

My main riding buddy has a piped/clutched 12 Assault with the 5.1 track and I have a bone stock 12 Pro 163.

Last season we would switch back and forth under various conditions to compare. In all conditions except super thick trees where we had to go slow and make tight turns, the 163 out performed the 155.

The 155 did not get stuck very often but it did get stuck more often than the 163 by about 2:1. The one place we really noticed the difference was what we called STC's (Sharp Transition Climbs)--ease up to the base of a steep climb leaving a run-up of one sled length, stop, and pin it. The 163 usually (60%) climbed out, and the 155 almost always didn't. On slopes where neither sled topped out the 163 out climbed the 155 by multiple sled lengths.

The results were pretty even no matter who was riding which sled--my buddy got the Assault for the beefier tunnel, heavier rails and shocks since he's a big boy (260-270 dressed) and I'm 225.

If you're a beast on a sled, a true top 5% rider, then go shorter because in the right hands they are far more nimble but if you're somewhere in the range of us average (intermediate to advanced) riders you'll be happier on the longer track.

Thanks Fourth Wolf, that puts it into a much better perspective

Two words - Track speed!

When I rode the 08 Dragon 163 I thought it felt like a boat compared to the 155 08 Dragon. I have not rode a 163 Pro but I have many miles on my 155 Pro. It's light and agile so why put more weight and lessen the track speed?

question of opinion

Lets summerize all the posts so far.

It comes down to a single question. What kind of riding are you goin to use it on. This isn't what everyone else is doing, but you. The one asking the question.
I would say answer that question, then you can best answer your original question.

I have both and I haven't had enough time to decide. But their in no way close in set up or extra products. One is stock 155 with a turbo and the other is 163 with racing suspensions, punched out motor and lightweight chassis.

But to best answer your question, you must answer the type of riding you will use it mostly on.

The rest of the guys are throwing out their opinion based on their riding style and type of terrain they ride.

This..........It comes down to rider and style of riding. I know guys that put a 141 in spots a lot of guys can't get a 163......doesnt mean the 141 is better just that the guys that are on them are extremely aggressive riders. Personally in the tight trees and deep fluff we get a 163 on a N/A sled for the trees, even drops, if its boosted i would do 155 or even 141 with it.

Nobody has mentioned what can destroy a sled in a heartbeat: Coming down! My bud's 163 was able to stop/slow coming down in marginal conditions MUCH better than my 153 was. Part of it was the track itself, but I had some scary rides coming down behind him where he didn't break a sweat.

After many years on a 162 I bought a 153 last and loved it, I ordered another 153 for this year...........just my experience yours may vary:face-icon-small-coo

I like more track speed, like better handling in the air, and doing more with shorter things is always a plus.....:face-icon-small-win
