155 x 3"

How many people have experience with the 156 x 3" tracks that are out now? Good or not great? Thinking of snow checking. I'm thinking the chain case might be a good idea, maybe feel a little more confident that things are going to hold up.

I run one on my 2013 Pro. Best upgrade I have ever done in my own opinion. The only downside that I see with mine is it seems to tend to want to make the sled overheat more often so I just run my scratchers on the hard pack and watch my temp gauge like a hawk. In the deep stuff it just straight gets it. I don't see overheating being an issue on the 2016 since Polaris made a snow flap just for it.

I'm kind of in the same boat but between the 2.6 and 3" on the 163 not 155. I haven't ridden a belt drive enough to really say if it makes a difference. If the belt drive came on the 3" that would definitely be my choice.

But by the same token, yeah you add a little bit of weight, but IMO you can some reliability? Maybe it's the perfect trade off. I plan to take my time making this decision as this will be the first new sled I've ever owned and I plan on keeping it awhile.

I'd love to hear info from those with experience!

i currently have a belt drive. Not to say polaris didnt gear the new sleds better than 2013-2015 but its the same price for a TKI belt drive weather you have a chain case or quick drive....... so saying that you could get the 2.6 and quick drive and not be happy with the ratio and buy a tki anyways!

I've had one for over a year now. BEST track upgrade I've ever done. And I've had my share of tracks.

That's a very good point.

Honestly, as long as it's reliable, I doubt I will have any complaints either way. I'm coming off of an edge, so this will be leaps and bounds above what I'm used to riding..so I doubt I'll complain.

Also, I don't see myself putting thousands more into upgrades. Probably do an exhaust and that's about it. I just can't justify spending that much more money on it.

Let me clarify: I can't JUSTIFY buying a new sled, but I gave up on doing that lol. I will be plenty broke after I pay for it, so short of winning the lottery, what I snowcheck will be what I ride for the next several years.

You will love it even stock. My pro only has a torque arm and front tunnel gussets. Love it but wish i had a bulk head cooler and better bite on hard pack so the sks is perfect with the 2.6"

Didnt like my iq chassis at all. Being you skipped the iq and the pro is going to be a crazy change!

3" track is the best mod I have done to my 155. I will not give up the belt drive for it though....will probably get the 2.6 and give it a try, and then buy a 3" if I have to.

So I wonder if the 3" is gonna have a softer paddle seeing they clearly stated that the 3" is designed specifically for soft snow and not set up. I would hate to have a 3" that just folds over on hard pack snow. I think my plan is to do the 2.6" with the belt, and see if the 3" is better or not. Then if so, swap the 3" for the 2.6" and put a gear down belt drive on.

Why not? what does the belt drive change? Can you honestly say you feel a difference in responsiveness with the belt drive?

The problem here is that the 2.6" is a 2.86 pitch and the 3" is 3.0 pitch. That means you have to buy drivers. Last I saw that was a good $1300.

I thought about buying the 3" with the chaincase and just upgrading to the TKI belt drive. I have the TKI system on my '13 Pro and it is flat out bullet proof (I run 10 lbs of turbo boost too). This way you are only out $700 and end up with a better belt drive system.

I was torn on which path to go (3" or 2.6"). But the fact that you have to buy the chain case made it easy for me to go with the 2.6".

Are you sure about that? This 3" track isn't a Camoplast X3, it's a track made specifically for Polaris, which I'm going to guess will be 2.86 pitch as well.

Ya the 3" track is a 3" pitch and the 2.6" is a 2.86" pitch. I think Scott put it up on another thread. It was a page of specs from Polaris.

Ok Scott, you know I respect your opinion. Why am I hearing from so many guys.

"Don't do the 3", it will make your sled a trenching pig. It kills the handling of the Pro."

I am hearing this a lot. What's the deal???

I love the belt drive....I do think it has more responsiveness and throttle to track feel. I really think it is because the QD belt is a straight shot, with no kink or adjuster to go around like a chain case. I also broke two chain cases on 09 and 12 summits, and last week we had a new M8 go down, 15 miles in the backcountry with a broken chain. I have broken one QD belt in 2500 hard miles, and it took me 10 minutes to change, and I was back riding.

I thought it was pretty helpful. Answered a lot of questions, I had.

My only problem with the podcast was the Snowest mag guys attitude about the trail manners of the Pro. WTF... It's not a trail sled. Then when they talked about the can/muffler. That was a little odd.

IMHO, the 3" is a total game changer and makes the Pro much better in every way except for cooling on the trail. I have not found it to trench at all, in fact I feel it is the opposite.....we line up stock track vs. 3" sleds and it is not close on the hills. A 3" 155 routinely out climbs a 2.4" 163, with all else being the same.

It seems obvious that the 3" out performs lining up and heading straight up a hill, but what are the differences in handling through the trees...what the pro is made for
