How to get to 159
Stretched mine 2 years ago and it has worked very well. My goal was to keep the tunnel shorter than what BRP would normally have, so I bought 151 tunnel parts for my 159 project. Debated on using the 144 cooler, but it was brought to my attention that the snow coming straight up off the track as it comes around the rear idlers, actual does the most cooling. If you were to use a shorter cooler, the snow will not be directly hitting the cooler, just passing by. If the sled is in good powder or loose snow conditons, there's no problem, but there are those few times when you need all the cooling you can get. As I said, I used a 151 cooler, but I also used 9" rear wheels, so the skid length was shorter than a standard 159, which helped with what I just explained. Front drivers for a 2.25 or 2.3 track, need to be 9 tooth on a 2.52 track (or smaller) or 8 tooth for 2.86 drives. Gearing that works for me, 19/45
and then some clutching too. For rails I went with Ice Age and they are nice. One last mod was to install XP drop brackets for the rear skid mount. Saves 1.5 lbs and gains 1" of height. The track was a toss up, as I wanted to save weight, but didn't here to many good things about the Challenger Lite, although they are 10 lbs lighter. After looking at them, I decided to go with one, but make it better. I did a lot of experimenting and came up with a track the works like a powder max, but is 15 lbs lighter.
And one last thing, I've get a new project and will be parting out the sled I just talked about (motor problems
), so let me know if there's interest in anything
.
