we found out it was low battery voltage. we threw a battery charger on it over night and it worked flawlessly all weekend.

Charged the battery with a trickle charger after riding makes a huge dfference.
The coil packs on these high performance four strokes pull a lot of juice. and unless your running WFO all the time the magneto can't keep up at half throttle.
