My best friend owns a 11' pro and he went to cut down a christmas tree with his family! so on the way back he was on the trail for about 8-10 miles. I am assuming he was riding the entrie way at the same rpm 5-6000 and then he jumped off the trail to lube the hifax and reved it up, anyway he slowed down and the sled died.
tried to pull it and was very hard to pull and he said it almost felt like it rolled backwards when he tried to pull it. obviously he said it made some awful sounds etc etc..
Any idea if its just a piston or crank? and why did this happen. He has a hps can and runs legend zx2sr oil. Before he takes it to the dealer should we swap the can and oil for stock?

I might be way off the mark here, but what immediately came to my mind is how hot did the motor become if he felt the hi-fax dragging. These pros will heat to +200 in a hurry if your not paying attention.

This same thing actually happened to me this weekend on Rabbit Ears. Playin in the trees, took a short break, went back at it and BOOM, seized her up.
Craig Powersports took her apart Saturday morning. Bearing on the crank went, taking EVERYTHING with it, EVERYTHING.... Whole new motor time, top to bottom... glad I bought the warranty!

PS put the stock can back on before ya take her in.

sounds to me like you guys are overheating the motors then dipping in to the soft snow will give the motor a cold shock then hammer on it will give it a huge heat burst and the motor locks up.. these pros are very receptive to overheating if your not careful.. they are not trail sleds they are purpose built for deep snow and mountains

There's plenty of threads to read on the 11' motors, try searching before asking a repetitive questions.

Mine blew a crank bearing on the mag side with 775 miles.

My second motor blew when the dealer F'd up the oil line relocation addendum, Hope the 3rd motors a charm?

That's not a good way to start the year......I hope it's not too bad.

P.S. M8sandman is this what you meant by bullet proof....NO SUGAR!:D

camocat go read about your sweet new kitty cats in the proclimb section, guys are already to the point they want to give away their new cats, first 7 threads are about problems with the 2012's and even one of a new 1100 turbo burning up after 30 miles! :boink::pound:

My guess is he didn't have his ice scratchers down and the motor over heated. It doesn't take long under low snow conditions. Do you think he thought it was going in reverse because when he pulled on the rope he was pulling the sled backwards, maybe? Put the stock can back on for sure. It can't hurt. As far as the oil I don't think that would make a difference. Good luck!

Why doesn't your buddy (the one with the Pro) come on and provide details? It's just that when we hear stories like this the thread usually becomes a bashing or BS thread. Not that I don't trust you though.

snopromod...I don't care what anyone rides but when u ride when u bash and say your brand is bullet proof I have to take a little jab all in fun..there is no such thing as bullet proof all we can do is hope we got a good one...And yes the new kitty's are going to have there first year problems just like every brand ....

So if there is a question with overheating in the pro, is a guy smart to consider buying the regular production RMK? I've been told that it has a secondary cooler, thus the 9 lb weight addition?

Ace, if your going to be doing trail riding and at 5k-6k constant rpms I would probably say yes, however if you always ride in places with lots of snow, and you can always dip off the trail for a minute or two, then I wouldn't worry about it

We just have trails that we have to ride to get to the powder. At 225lbs, I'm not too concearned with the additional 9 lbs, but was just thinking out loud if anyone else thought that maybe the coolers are too small on the Pro.

...and that is a thought...

...Just thinking that the 9 lbs, and 800 bucks in my wallet, might be a better way of going.

yeah, my riding buddy has the base rmk, front cooler, never gets over 125-130 trail, powder, mud ect..lol
see the thread on the sno flap, changed mine back to regular IQ dragon flap knocked off 25 degrees on the trail.
And in the pro, a bit of premix is always a good friend :face-icon-small-win

I add 1 oz/gallon to the tank always. screw worrying about that oil pump and lower rpm flow.

The 9 lbs comes mostly from the addition of the extra wheels on the skid rails. The standard comes with the front wheels on them already and the Pro does not. The cooler may add 2-3 lbs.
Yep, I went with the Standard and got the extra wheels and front cooler for $1000 less than the Pro.

Most of the guys around here are putting on the front wheels anyhow and having to pay for them.

Even with the front cooler, you still have to use your scrathcers. Kind of a toss up there weather it needs the front cooler or not. It may help in some situations. I have to ride 15+ miles on trails to get to the good stuff so I wanted the extra cooler. Both the Pro and standard had to use scratchers to keep the temps at 125. Both worked just fine on the trail.
