1000 Rt Big Bore

I ride with a guy that got a bikman big bore and crankshop twins for his rt 1000 last year. Seized up after 8 miles of babying it and he had to pay to fix it. Wasn't fun towing him out.

I ride with a guy that got a bikman big bore and crankshop twins for his rt 1000 last year. Seized up after 8 miles of babying it and he had to pay to fix it. Wasn't fun towing him out.

Was he able to get it dialed in the 2nd time around or go back to stock?

He was told that it cold seized even though he had ben riding it for 8 miles non stop when it seized. It would run fine, but the coolant temps would really drop when in the powder. I do not know much about the rt 1000's so correct me if I am wrong, but the 05 rt 1000's do not have a thermostate. The coolant just constantly circulates. He said he called several doo shops and talked to their techs and was told it did not have one either. I believe he looked at the parts fich and it did not show a stat either. Bikeman never mentioned any thing about needing one. You would think if it was a big problem (wich it definatly was) that bikeman would have mentioned some thing about it. Sent paper work in bold red letters saying you need a stat or watch coolant temps or mentioned some thing about it.
Of course this is also after it took a couple weeks longer then he was told and when he did get it the pistons were two totally different pistons. One had a molly side skirt one didn't. The other had a ceramic coated dome and the other didnt if I remember right. One was gas ported all the way around. One was gas ported on just one side. The bottom of the piston skirt was cut different. Called bikeman about it and was told it would be fine and run them. Put them on the scale before installing and their was 5 grams difference between the two. That is big difference. Called wiseco with numbers and one told one was a bikeman piston and the other was a crank shop piston. Called bikeman on it and was sent another piston to match.
He had a buddy machine a restrictor to put in the coolant line and watches coolant temps alot now. If it gets too hot or too cold (wich doesn't seem to be too often) he stops for awhile.
All this started because the stock pistons failed and he could not find any with a one month back order from doo. Plus stock the doo pistons were some stupid really high price.

I know a lot of folks like to eliminate the stat - but as I read what you posted I was thinking there must not have been a stat in it. I wouldn't'a guessed it would be stock that way this day in age?

05's had too much cooling... eliminate the bulkhead cooler all together and it will be right
