09 XP recoil failure

09 xp. over 500 miles, aftermarket can, no heat tape on recoil, and no problems. Still on original belt as well and it still looks good. I'm not seeing any of the problems some of you are complaining about. Just a good, strong sled.

most trusty sted i ever had and still have is a 06 summit X with elec start.....the older series 800s are a PITA to start after a roll over, very nice with the elec start:beer;

My 09 is very hard to start after rolling on its side.

Curious how much the starter and battery weigh.

had 150 miles on mine and the recoil wouldnt work started it with the rope and tab once and then tried the recoil when i got back to the trailer and has worked ever since 350 miles now

Right at 21# all together, stock battery.

...MAX

That recoil is a peace of junk, both rev 07 & the xps. Never used to, but I'm starting to like the idea of the E-start option. If I could compensate that extra 21 lb.s maybe cutting back on packing less lunch or something. Or go on Jenny Craigs new "light beer diet" . Think of how many times a guy pulls that stupid cord each ride. Think of the energy a guy could save buy by just pressing the start button instead. Less tired at the end of the day, maybe riding a extra hour because of it and burning 21 lbs. of extra gas.... there, now the machine is par weight with the pull start! That's it, I'm switching. :beer;

Our 09 XP is on its 3rd recoil LOL......By the way is anyone leaving the plastic sheild on thats between the can and motor ? It appears all it does is reduce engine noise.

OT

Mine is still on. The plastic tool holder on the other side is gone though. I'm pretty well vented though, so I am not too worried about extra heat from keeping it in.

I agree with DaveB that it seems to be the luck of the draw. You seem to either get a good one (no issues whatsoever), or you get a bad one (repeated failures).

Didn't I read somewhere that someone found loose bolts for the housing that bolts to the motor?
